David Benavidez perhaps finds himself surrounded by talks of a possible bout with Canelo Alvarez. He may still be uncertain about how the year will unfold for him. However, it doesn’t mean he can leave things to chance. As a professional boxer, he understands the importance of being prepared for whatever challenges destiny may present.
The WBC (interim) super middleweight is currently standing at a critical juncture of his decade-old career. Irrespective of the lineup that turns up, ‘The Mexican Monster’ understands that he has to keep on training. At least the latest clip certainly demonstrates his willingness to remain razor-sharp.

Fight Hub uploaded a YouTube short, “David Benavidez training to DISABLE Canelo JAB!” It shows the Arizonian in a one-on-one session inside the ring. Since the trainer’s face was not visible, it was difficult to make out his true identity. A few who commented, though, asked whether that was Andre Dirrell. The loud music muffled the audio. Visibly, the trainer seemed to be taking Benavidez through different scenarios where the Mexican icon could utilize his jabs effectively.
David Benavidez has been chasing the Canelo Alvarez fight for some time. Right after beating Caleb Plant, he openly called out the Mexican icon. Later, Benavidez even seems to have offered Alvarez an eight-figure amount for a fight. But the latter, following John Ryder, continued with his next title defense against Jermell Charlo. Hopes renewed when news of the WBC elevating Benavidez as a mandatory challenger appeared.
Now that the Cinco de Mayo weekend is near, it remains to be seen what Canelo Alvarez’s final decision will be.
‘The Mexican Monster: Too Big a Winner?
David Benavidez, on the other hand, continues. Interestingly, to many who commented, he seemed beyond just an ordinary 168-pound fighter. But there were still a few who felt that he could turn the tables on Canelo Alvarez.
For instance, this user feels the Benavidez-Alvarez bout will be akin to the Bivol-Alvarez bout. “Benavidez plan will be like Divol [Bivol] fight Canelo; that’s how Canelo couldn’t do nothing to Divol [Bivol],” the user said.
However, David Benavidez’s size seems to have shocked the following user. Way too big for the super middleweight division, they feel, cruiserweight should be apt for him. The user said, “Benavidez being this big and fighting at 168 is crazy. He looks like he should be at cruiserweight.”
Now, despite admiring Canelo Alvarez, this follower feels that he will be outboxed by Benavidez: “I like Canelo, and he’s a great fighter, BUT, David is going to out-box him and win the fight.” Echoing similar sentiments, the next follower believes that the Mexican champion may never fight ‘The Mexican Monster’. “Canelo will never fight David; he’s too smart and knows he will get stopped,” they said.

The following user seems confident that David Benavidez will win the bout since the only potent punch in Alvarez’s arsenal is the hook to the body. The user said, “Canelo doesn’t have a jab, though.. His only decent punch is the hook to the body. David should easily beat Canelo.”
In a strict sense, David Benavidez is the mandatory challenger to Canelo Alvarez. However, there’s still no clarity as to whether the 168-pound undisputed king will accept his dare for the upcoming Cinco de Mayo opener or a fall headline. Hopefully, fans should be receiving some concrete news regarding the fight in the coming days.
