The story of Prichard Colón remains a tragedy in the pages of boxing history. His career was expected to have a stellar plot line, but sadly the story ended before it ever began. Even to date, it overwhelms any person who recalls the calamitous outcome of the bout that was fought back in 2015. Prichard Colón and Terrel Williams fought at the Eagle Bank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia. Colón entered the ring with a perfect 16-0 record, and it was the last time that he would ever enter a boxing ring.

During the match, Colón told the referee that Williams was using illegal ‘rabbit punches.’ However, the fight continued. In the 9th round, Williams knocked down Colón with another rabbit punch. Colón’s team mistakenly took off his gloves, causing his disqualification. In the locker room, he fell unconscious, after which he was shifted to a hospital where he fell into a coma. For the next years, he remained in a vegetative state, having to be fed through a tube. When an influencer recently decided to pay tribute to the boxer on his birthday, the boxing world was suddenly reminded of the great tragedy that befell the young Colón. So who is this influencer and what did they say?

The influencer who recently posted about Colón is none other than the woman known as the ‘female Andrew Tate’, Pearl Davis. Davis’ tweet triggered a myriad of memories for the boxing world. After the tragic bout, his adversary Terrel Williams paused his boxing career for two years to cope with the incident. He stepped back into the ring but stopped again in 2019 after only four more fights. As for Colón, the Puerto Rican boxer started showing signs of improvement in 2018. He has been slowly trudging the path to full recovery. However, when the post was made by Davis on the boxer’s 31st birthday, fans couldn’t help but reflect on the dangers involved in the sport of boxing.

One fan echoed Pearl’s sentiment, writing, “One of the saddest stories in boxing.

A fan, meanwhile, pointed out the naivete of people who enter the sport casually. The post was made in reference to the entire influencer boxing scene, which is all the hype these days.

Another follower pointed out the story of another boxer, ‘Gerald McClellan’, by writing, “Fighting sports are no joke.”

A user, however, added her viewpoint by saying that “Terrel Williams and the referee Joe Cooper should have been sued” for this act.

Another fan simply responded by reminding people of the basic truth that, “Life is precious, war is hell…”
