Very few have had grand success at the start of their career, and among these few comes the name of Keyshawn Davis. The 24-year-old is not just an able fighter but also a fan favorite. ‘The Businessman’ has received praise from the likes of  Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather and the WBC World Lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.

For Davis, Stevenson is more than just someone he looks up to. Davis considers Stevenson as his “brother”, however, since both are in the same weight category, speculations about both of them facing each other in the boxing ring at some point of time in their careers are rife. Amidst headlines and comments regarding the same, Davis gave his opinion on the potential matchup on FightHype.

The interview asked Keyshawn for his opinion on fans wanting them to fight as they belong in the same weight class and it opens up an opportunity to make tons of money. He replied, “We gotta fight each other in front of the whole entire world. That don’t even make sense when we can make the same amount of money or close to it, outside the ring.” 

While speaking of financial missteps in boxing, Davis also said, “Us fighters get so stuck in we got to make all our Millions dollars inside the ring, which is the reason why 90% of us go broke when we done boxing.”

Speaking of the terrible financial conditions of most boxers after they are done with their careers, Davis mentioned he has many ways to make money outside of the ring owing to his massive fan base. It is for these reasons that he does not need and he will not fight Stevenson even if they are in the same weight class. But if not Stevenson, who does Davis plan to fight?

Keyshawn Davis’ plans for future fights

The youngster is scheduled to fight against Jose Pedraza this February. Davis will get to experience what it’s like to face a two-division world champion, and it will be a step up from his most recent fights. However, After Pedraza, Davis mentioned his wanting to fight Lomanchenko by the end of the year.

Although Lomachenko doesn’t appear much in the media, Davis is probably the last person on his mind. Although the opponent for his upcoming fight has not yet been made official, it is expected to be George Kambosos Jr. for the vacant IBF lightweight title.
