In an unexpected turn of events, former unified welterweight champion Keith Thurman has been forced to withdraw from the highly anticipated March 31 showdown against Tim Tszyu. The reason behind Thurman’s withdrawal is a training camp injury, leaving fans and organizers in a bind. However, the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) event will proceed as planned, showcasing resilience in the face of adversity.

Stepping into the spotlight to fill the void left by Thurman is the 6′ 5½″ southpaw, Sebastian Fundora, 20-1, who will now challenge Tszyu for his WBO Junior middleweight title. The bout is set to take center stage on Amazon Prime Video’s PPV debut event, ensuring that boxing enthusiasts won’t miss a beat of the action.

This adjustment to the fight card is possibly done to maintain the event’s high stakes after losing Thurman, as Tszyu aims to still defend his title against the formidable ‘Towering Inferno’ Fundora. This update is also expected to present a challenge to Tim Tszyu’s preparation, as he had been training for Thurman, an orthodox fighter, but will now face Fundora, a southpaw known for keeping constant pressure on his opponents.

Fundora last fought in April 2023 and lost against Brian Mendoza. This loss resulted in Fundora losing his WBC interim junior middleweight title. Additionally, the evening will also feature a compelling undercard battle between Rolly Romero and Isaac Cruz, for Romero’s WBA light welterweight title further enriching the event’s lineup. But what does this fiasco merely ten days away from the event mean for Serhii Bohachuk who was earlier supposed to fight Sebastian Fundora on the Thurman vs. Tszyu undercard?

Is Serhii Bohachuk left hanging?

The world is unfair. Serhii Bohachuk was set to face Stephen Fundora in the Thurman-Tszyu undercard, but now that Fundora has stepped up for Tim Tszyu, what’s gonna happen with the Ukrainian WBC Continental Americas light middleweight champion? According to Dan Rafael, “Serhii Bohachuk, who was supposed to fight Fundora for vacant WBC 154 on uc, will remain on card.”

The potential opponent of Serhii Bohachuk hasn’t been confirmed yet by PBC. However, Brian Mendoza is a name that is being mentioned to be considered in the possible opponents list. Brian Mendoza’s last fight was against Tim Tszyu, where he lost to Tszyu by UD. This fight came after Brian defeated Stephen Fundora earlier in 2023 by KO in the 7th round. Brian and Serhii have very similar records, with Brian having a record of 22-3 and Serhii having a record of 23-1.
