In their unique ways, Amanda Serrano and Danila Ramos recognized the need for a new era in women’s boxing. Serrano proposed the idea of three-minute rounds, and Ramos embraced the challenge of fighting the undisputed featherweight champion. In a sold-out 3,500-seat ballroom in Florida, Serrano and Ramos chose to fight 12, three-minute rounds instead of the traditional 10, two-minute rounds for women’s title fights.
The impact of their decision extended beyond the match’s outcome. Serrano’s unanimous decision victory, retaining her IBF, WBO, and WBA titles was not as significant for them as the revolutionary step that they both had taken. Just a few weeks ago, Jermell Charlo has taken up the herculean task of beating Canelo Alvarez, the super middleweight champion. However, all Charlo managed to do was survive the fight before taking a loss. Jake Paul, Serrano’s constant support in the endeavor, has compared the two fights while proposing a new change. Let us find out.
