Joe Joyce is prepping for a rematch with Zhilei Zhang at Wembley Arena in London. Zhang closed Joyce’s right eye with accurate punches in their first fight. This led to a sixth-round stoppage and Joyce losing his WBO interim heavyweight belt. In spite of the grim loss, Joe Joyce believes weight gain and tactical changes will help him in the rematch.

However, a unique entity joined the narrative amidst his preparation for the rematch months ago. He’s none other than Tyson Fury. ‘The Gypsy King’ recently offered to help Joyce prepare for the rematch. Fury posted a video on social media. In the video, he claimed he could guarantee Joyce a win. However, he also said he would charge a steep price of $100,000 per round for sparring. However, ‘Juggernaut’ rejected his offer. Curious why? Read to find out!

Why did Joe Joyce turn down Fury’s offer?

In a recent interview with iFL TV, Joe Joyce explained why he turned down a sparring offer from Tyson Fury. The first reason was because he found the fee too high. However, the reason isn’t just the hefty amount but other strategic output as well. This is because Joyce didn’t want to reveal his fighting style to Fury, considering a future fight. As he said, “No thanks, it’s not really cost-efficient…He claimed he’s charging 100 grand a round. That’s what he said online, so it must be true.”

He added, “he’s going to have more time to prepare because that could be a fight down the line. So it’s not smart tactically to do that.” Furthermore, if Joyce beats Zhang, he could become the WBO mandatory challenger. Currently, Oleksandr Usyk holds this title. Thus, a victory over Zhang could further improve his chance of fighting for the title next.
