Jake Paul’s Trainer Gives Former World Champion a Reality Check for Being Hypocritical Towards Tyson Fury Ahead of Francis Ngannou Fight

‘When you point your finger, there are three fingers pointing back at you.’ Thus goes an old saying. Self-introspection is always recommended when one decides to train the gun on someone. Perhaps that prompted BJ Flores to turn the tables on former champion Carl Froch. The latter laid the blame on Tyson Fury for the much-hyped exhibition bout with Francis Ngannou next month. Hence, Jake Paul‘s trainer took up the cudgels to remind Froch of the fingers pointed in his direction.

On his podcast ‘Froch on Fighting,’ ‘The Cobra’ brought up the press conference where Tyson Fury kicked up a stink about him and Tony Bellew. ‘The Gypsy King’ mentioned how neither of the two boxers could ever make good money, which made them resentful. Fury had also talked about agreeing on a ‘biggest deal in boxing history’, details of which he refused to divulge. Carl Froch launched his comeback by highlighting how well he had fared financially.

He then clarified that Tyson Fury, in his fourteen-year career, has had four credible wins over world champions. In contrast, his record stood at eleven wins. As the WBC champion, Froch believes he should defend his titles against established champions.

He said, “…all right, you’re taking the money; that’s great, but when your career is over and you’re finished, you want your legacy to be intact…actually, what you’re doing is bad for the game…you won’t be dining at the top table with me and my peers because you won’t belong there with that CV, so you need to get a move on defending that WBC belt and get in that ring with a real fighter, somebody like Usyk or Anthony Joshua...”

But for much of his tirade against Fury’s exhibition fight, fans may not have forgotten what he said a few months ago. During a discussion at the talksSPORT studio, he spoke about the offers he had been receiving. One of the hosts asked whether he’d be willing for a match against a YouTube personality. And Froch replied, “Of course I would—especially Jake Paul! I’d iron him out. He wouldn’t fight me, though, would he?”

Perhaps taking a cue from the response, Paul’s long-time trainer, BJ Flores, a former Cruiserweight challenger, replied, “Remember, Carl was calling out Jake last year, so let’s just STOP with the “holier than tho” posts. With all due respect, Tyson is the heavyweight champion of the world. What he does is none of Carl’s concern.”

Exhibitions, crossovers, and YouTuber fights have been relatively successful in bringing back crowds to the arena. Yes, in the longer run, how that pans out for the sport and the individual legacy of the luminaries remains a more extensive debate. It will not be the first time Flores has taken up a cause he feels is worth fighting for. A few days ago, he even challenged YouTuber Keemstar for a winner’s bet on the upcoming  Logan Paul versus Dillon Danis during the MF & DAZN: X Series 10.
