Garcia described his relationship with Golden Boy Promotions as a toxic one. Garcia also alleged in a demand letter in June that his contract with Golden Boy promotion was breached. The allegations laid out in that letter prompted a response from Golden Boy in the form of a lawsuit filed against Garcia. Garcia has now thrown light on the complicated relationship he shares with the management. “It’s like a toxic relationship, they just wanna keep me there. It’s because I’m that hot. It’s like, ‘I don’t wanna let her go, she’s so hot.’ That’s how it is.” said Garcia to DAZN Boxing.

He believes De La Hoya finds it difficult to let him go since he is a big name currently and losing him would also put a dent in the finances and the standing of Golden Boy. Interestingly, Golden Boy handles Duarte’s promotions as well but it’s clear that Garcia is the one who prevails more among the crowd.

Post his recent defeat to Gervonta Davis in April, Garcia is frustrated. The reason mostly is Hopkins’ comments which imply that he might decide Garcia’s future in boxing. “One thing that’s been on my heart is the statements that Bernard made where he’ll decide if I’m going to finish or if I should continue boxing after this fight,” said Garcia. Firmly asserting his autonomy, Garcia declared that his coach and team, not Hopkins, held the authority to determine his boxing journey.
