Did the recent talks of Devin Haney vs. Gervonta Davis get you all excited? Well, to the disappointment of many, promoter Eddie Hearn has hinted at the fight possibly not happening. The onus of it slipping away? As per a few screenshots and Hearn’s claims, it is ‘Tank’ that has had a change of mind.

In the wake of Haney’s unanimous decision win over Regis Prograis, the fighter instigated Tank for a fight. While their online battle might have fans believing that a fight between them was on the horizon, Hearn has come out suggesting that Tank might not be serious about the fight after all.

When posed a question by a Boxing Social reporter, about the screenshots that Tank shared on his stories, Hearn regretted having forgotten about the fighter’s ability to publicize private conversations. However, keeping that aside, he made serious revelations about the anticipated Tank vs. Haney fight. Explaining why he slid into Tank’s DMs, he said, “I would like to start conversations for the Devin Haney- Gervonta Davis fight. So I just texted him and said, “Let’s talk,” and he said “no.”

Why does he think Tank might not want to take the fight forward? The promoter went on to state, “So that was it really. So I don’t think he’s very interested in a Devin Haney fight but who knows?” Over the weekend, Tank had alleged that Haney and his dad, Bill were not directly contacting him for a fight but rather Hearn was doing it. In return, Bill Haney came with his own version of events, claiming that Tank was offered $20 million for the Haney fight, but the fighter rejected it.

However, the reason behind him going to Tank had to do a lot more with the fighter being apparently ‘unhappy.’ Unhappy on what grounds, you ask? Let’s dive in.

Why is Gervonta Davis unhappy?

Reportedly, Davis remains unhappy with his current promotion. There were talks of Davis seeking alternative promotion avenues to get his Haney fight done. Hearing this conjecture, Hearn reached out to Tank in hopes of grabbing the opportunity. Why would he not? Haney vs. Tank would perhaps be one of the biggest clashes to happen in recent years. He said, “Next and I thought, oh okay. You know, slid in. Obviously, we can offer massive money for that fight in many different countries around the world. So I just wanted to see if he was interested in a Devin Haney fight but clearly not. It was very short and sharp.”

If Hearn’s deductions from his conversation with Tank are real, then it would be disheartening news for boxing enthusiasts. Furthermore, it would strengthen Haney’s claims that Tank is indeed dodging him. But for argument’s sake, let’s just assume that the fight does take its course. Who do you think would win?
