Does this mean the rematch against Terence Crawford is off? Errol Spence Jr. is recovering from cataract surgery, and his former opponent, Yordenis Ugas, has wished for a fast recovery. Interestingly, when the pair last met each other in April 2022, Ugas suffered an eye fracture, leaving fans worried.
More recently, the former world champion faced off against Mario Barrios in the undercard of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo fight, where that same eye looked severely inflamed. He hasn’t entered the ring since then. However, today, when ‘54 Milagros’ discovered the health update from ‘The Truth’ on social media, he had to express his thoughts.

Yordenis Ugas’ genuine concern
Michael Benson picked up Spence’s Instagram story and shared it on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday. The online editor for talksports wrote in the caption, “Errol Spence on Instagram today…” In the clip itself, Spence can be seen being transported via wheelchair while his eye is obscured by bandages. So, Ugas responded to the tweet with a comforting message for Spence.
Wow it’s not easy😞 get better champ🙏🏾

“Wow, it’s not easy, get better champ,” wrote Ugas. However, it’s worth mentioning that this wasn’t Specnce’s first tango with eye surgery. Back in August 2021, Spence had to pull out of a fight against Manny Pacquiao, clearing the way for Ugas to take over. Ugas went on to win the biggest fight of his career via unanimous decision, which turned out to be the ‘Pac-Man’s’ retirement fight. With Ugas’ response out of the way, here’s what Spence said!
Errol Spence Jr. on his eye surgery
Despite missing out on a fight with the legendary ‘Pac-Man,’ Errol Spence wasn’t regretting his decision. In a media workout from April 2022, Spence said, “If I would’ve fought him, I probably would have been blind in my eye and lost my career. Everything happens for a reason. I just got to take the punches and roll with it.”

However, when it came to his recent surgery, ‘The Truth’ revealed why the surgery was necessary for him. “It’s been past due. Sh!t was covering my eye. Why [do] you think I got hit with so many jabs and hooks? Still a great performance by bro [Crawford],” Spence wrote in his Instagram story. Spence activated his rematch clause with Crawford after his last loss, and the surgery was necessary for him to get into the best shape.
