Jermell Charlo does not shy away from a challenge. On 30th September, the undisputed Light Middleweight champion will move up in weight classes to challenge Canelo Alvarez. Although his will to compete deserves praise, it is noteworthy to mention that the weight disparity between the two is substantial. Not to mention, Charlo has been relatively less active recently in contrast to ‘Saul.’

The betting odds also reflect a similar point of view as the ‘Iron Man,’ is a heavy underdog. However, Charlo remains confident but a former champion is not convinced regarding something. Why is it so?

The legendary boxer is none other than Marco Antonio Barrera. The 49-year-old is the former champion of three weight classes. His celebrated career lasted for decades and boasts a record of a whopping 67 victories but only seven defeats. In an interview with Fight Hub TV, the retired boxer was asked to weigh in on the matchup between Charlo and Alvarez.

In response, he had a decisive answer and you guessed it: Canelo Alvarez. But why? He begins by mentioning Alvarez is Mexican, just like him but gets into great detail. He adds, the weight difference between the two is significant and sufficient to predict the victor. He stated, “Well sure Canelo because he is from Mexico. I love the fight. I want to see.”
He further added, “Charlo you know have to up 14 pounds. It is a lot of weight. But got to be a good fight and after have to wait what happened.” It is safe to say that if he would be a betting man, his money would be on Alvarez. That being said, there are many legends who do not count Charlo out and predict an upset.

Evander Holyfield predicts an upset for Alvarez Vs. Charlo

Despite the narrative, Evander Holyfield thinks if Charlo weathers the storm, and the fight goes the distance, he will be the victor. In an interview, he stated, “It should be a good fight. You know both of the fighters is a good fighter, but I think if we go to the distance, I think Charlo is going to win.” In addition, he acknowledges that Alvarez is an incredible boxer but Charlo has youth on his side.
He adds, “He’s a good fighter, but I’m the but I know that Canelo, Canelo a good [fighter] and but Canelo is [a] little older, and I’m telling you a young, it’s time for the young guys”
