Claressa Shields is angry. She is furious over a five-year video leak that shows her getting knocked down during a sparring session. On social media and now through a video, Shields expressed her outrage over the resurfaced clip. Explaining how the incident came about, Shields narrated what the sparring opponent in question, Arturs Ahmetovs, and his trainer, Derik Santos, reportedly did by wearing gloves with ‘very little to zero padding.’

But she is equally unhappy over the unsolicited interference from Rolando Romero. As the controversy simmered over social media, the WBA light welterweight champion jumped the bandwagon. Calling out Artur Ahmetovs’ deplorable act, he tweeted about how he had knocked him out three years ago. But Claressa Shields would have none of such nosing in. In the nearly fifteen-minute diatribe, ‘The Real Deal’ launched a scathing criticism of ‘Rollie’ Romero’s uninvited comments.

But now let me speak on how these other ni**er is weird. Rollie, who I’m actually cool with who thought I was cool with, he comes to my inbox last night up on Instagram, and he like hey dang, I seen um, he like it’s crazy how I knocked that dude out for you, but you be hating on me…” Said Claressa Shields.

So she told Romero to get ahead of himself. After all, he lost the most recent battle to 40-year-old Ismael Barroso. But still, the match went in his favor. Saying he doesn’t have any right to reach out to her, she further tore down on the light welterweight champion. She mentioned how he’d asked whether she appreciated heavy hitters or boxers who were slick and always on the move.

All that Rolando Romero possessed was brute power. He could barely box. But despite his strength, she sounded confident that he wouldn’t be able to touch her. Then, telling Rolando Romero not to gatecrash her inbox, she pulled him down when he purportedly commented on her lack of power to box. Claressa Shields insisted that she could fight better than he could ever imagine.

She reminded Rolando Romero about the difference in their credentials. As a two-time Olympic gold medalist who won 13 world titles in comparison to his single achievement, she recalled how Gervonta Davis knocked him out last year. After a few minutes later, she coming back to Rolando Romero, she mentioned how almost everyone in the 140-pound division would punish him severely. ‘The Real Deal’ even spoke about visiting the Mayweather gym to put him to shame.

She said, “So Rollie, while your punk a** came came to my inbox ni**er, I will square up with you and whoop your a** literally ni**er, I will come to TMT gym and put my and literally put my hands on you, I will embarrass you with all that power you got, I will embarrass you.

Later on, she’d also spoken about Ahmetovs’ trainer, Derik Santos, and what happened to him.

What difference does it make?

While the controversy rages, it should be worthwhile to take notice of what Claressa Shields mentioned explicitly. In the seventeen years of her boxing career, she has been knocked down twice. So even if Arturs Ahmetovs had boxed with genuine boxing gloves and inflicted a knockdown on Shields, the question is, how does that matter in this era and age? She, like the rest, is a professional boxer. She is in the business of getting hit and knocked out, if it comes to that. As she rightfully said, “It’s boxing; it happens.

The world champion last fought Maricela Cornejo on June 3 for a title defense. In the meantime, she has also signed a deal with the Professional Fighters League (PFL). So there’s high expectation of her resuming fights in an octagon next year.
