Recently, Eddie Hearn, an iconic figure in modern boxing promotions made headlines on the Sidemen Podcast discussing Deji Olatunji’s career path. These dialogues were not limited to reflection upon Deji’s development but went as far as probable conflicts and tactical boxing.
Eddie Hearn, famous for his candid opinions, appreciated his boxing prowess. However, Hearn made multiple attempts to poke fun at the amateur’s stance, even though he later revealed that, despite it all, it did surprise him.

“I think he’s improved a lot,” Hearn stated, saying how far Olatunji has made it in the boxing ring. Of course, typical of the storyteller, Hearn could not afford to go without a wry joke where he wondered if at all, Olatunji may be a “little bit away with the fairies”.

Although this was just a joke, as Hearn was quick to say Olatunji was truly successful. Deji has gone far away from his background as a ComedyShortsGamer and has turned into a dangerous opponent. Growth, resilience, and pursuing greatness have become part of Deji’s life as he makes the transition from amateur bouts to professional showdowns as the younger brother to the popular KSI.
“You actually keep doing really well, I don’t think you should overthink it. I think he is such an asset, but you sort of went in there and were like… I am thinking are you mad? But you went in and you actually do all right,” Hearn said, referring to Olatunji’s tendency to flit around the ring.
Furthermore, Hearn was surprised that Olatunji hasn’t fought fellow YouTube influencer turned boxer, and former Sidemen Joe Weller. Weller has been itching for a fight and has previously called out fellow Sidemen, Ethan Payne. “I want to see you back but you are talking about this Joe Weller fight…I saw him, he’s alright.”
Officially, Olatunji’s journey in combat sports began in 2018 when he fought his first match as an amateur and fought none other than Jake Paul himself in the city of Manchester, London. The two newcomers had a fierce fight and it was only in the fifth round that Paul’s onslaught forced Olatunji’s team to throw in the towel. This initial defeat, however, marked only the beginning of his hardiness.
KSI and Ethan Payne weigh in
The conversation took an unexpected turn as Hearn delved into the prospect of a face-off with Joe Weller. As the conversation pivoted, Hearn playfully turned to Sidemen founder Ethan Payne, pointing a finger at him and asking for his take on the potential matchup. Back in October, Payne was considering the possibility of entering the boxing ring, responding to a challenge from fellow content creator Joe Weller.
Joe Weller, known for his involvement in YouTube boxing, proposed a match with Payne, aka Behzinga, who expressed the need for three to four months of training before making his boxing debut. He expressed confidence in his ability to win the fight and hinted that it could be a headline event rather than an undercard match. The news garnered attention from fans and prompted responses from Joe Weller.

Meanwhile, KSI, interjected with a simple yet impactful statement: “I think I need to see you spar.” KSI, suggesting that the road ahead for Olatunji and Payne might involve more strategic preparation. However, unlike Payne, Olatunji is not new to the sweet science. After he made his boxing debut in 2018 against KSI, he has been fighting on and off.
