Following his contentious win over Vasily Lomachenko, undisputed Lightweight champion Devin Haney finds himself embroiled in a series of events that have captivated the boxing world. The highly debated outcome of his last fight, along with his recent arrest on a felony weapons charge, has left fans and pundits wondering about Haney’s next move.

In May, Haney and Lomachenko engaged in a thrilling 12-round showdown that left fans divided. Despite an impressive display of skill from both fighters, the undisputed champion managed to retain his title through a unanimous decision. Following this, talks between Haney and fellow boxer Shakur Stevenson seemed promising. A potential clash between the two had fans excited for an explosive matchup. However, negotiations between the fighters broke down, with Stevenson admitting that he rejected Haney’s initial offer.  However, amidst the turmoil, Matchroom CEO Eddie Hearn has taken an interest in shaping ‘The Dream’s’ future in the ring. Hearn revealed that he has sent Haney’s team a contract proposing a fight between him and Regis Prograis. In addition, he feels that this fight needs to be booked as quickly as possible.

During a recent interview, Eddie Hearn, renowned boxing promoter, passionately expressed his desire to arrange a highly-anticipated clash between Regis Prograis and Devin Haney. Hearn emphasized that discussions have been ongoing, indicating the significant interest surrounding this potential matchup. While he acknowledged that Haney’s recent arrest needs to be addressed, a fight with ‘Rougarou’ is the best option for him.

“I want to make Regis against Devin Haney. We’ve been talking a lot, obviously. Devin’s had his issues over the last couple of days. And I think that’s the right fight for both guys. I said to you earlier, I need to really start pushing on these fighters and the advisors and the managers to take the big fights.” he said

After expressing his commitment to advocating for big fights, Hearn added that he would make sure this fight is booked. Moreover, he revealed why his promotion wants to book the best fights in a sport where big fights rarely get made. Hearn’s perspective goes beyond mere financial incentives; he understands the importance of creating exciting matchups that captivate fans and leave a lasting impact on the sport.

The British promoter highlighted the importance of rewarding fighters for taking on significant challenges. He also emphasized the need to avoid organizing standard defenses that fail to excite fans. Hearn specifically mentioned that his streaming platform DAZN is not interested in seeing Prograis face lesser-known opponents like Sandor Martin.

They need to be rewarded. It’s not just, but at the same time, I don’t want to make… and DAZN doesn’t want to make standard defenses that don’t excite you. So, we don’t really want to see Regis against Sandor Martin. We want to see Regis against Devin Haney.” he said speaking on the bout.
