Instead, Garcia has set his sights on facing the charismatic WBA champ, Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero. The decision marks a shift in Garcia’s strategic considerations and preference for a different matchup. Moreover, he’s currently put in time to work on his defensive skills, as he trained with Floyd Mayweather recently.

Moreover, Garcia announced, “Floyd is mentoring me, And I love and respect him, he is so authentic so stop judging him.” Meanwhile, leaked figures through Dan Rafael and Rick Glaser reveal that Haney’s last PPV buys for his fight against Regis Prograis were reportedly modest. He’s only registered at 50K on DAZN in December. For this reason, Garcia considers himself the bigger draw even though Haney has achieved great feats in the sport. And now, he’s called out Rolly Romero for his next fight.

Ryan Garcia recently uploaded a post on X where he talked about how he wants his team to change its direction. This is because he has decided to take up a fight against Rolly Romero, and he wishes to get the support he needs from his team as well. In the post, he even urged his promoter Oscar De La Hoya to make it happen anyhow. His logic dictates, “bigger fight, bigger business.”

After this, he made a follow-up post on X where he then addressed his former target, Devin Haney. He talked about how even after he fights Rolly Romero, his chances of fighting Haney wouldn’t be any less than what they are now. He even advised Haney to take on Richardson Hitchens as his next opponent, especially after assessing his leaked PPV numbers.

Well, this generated a response from Devin Haney, and he made it clear that he wasn’t too happy with Garcia’s sudden change of mind. Interestingly, Garcia had called out Romero earlier before beginning negotiations with Devin Haney.

Garcia said, “I want Rolly. I feel like it’s a fun fight. He’s a great, aggressive, crazy dude. Lead-up would be crazy. I want that, you know. [The] dude has the title, technically. But yeah, let’s do it.”
