While some may have anticipated a rematch between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford after Spence Jr.’s loss in July 2023, it now seems to be on the verge of collapsing. Up until this point, the former champion had taken full responsibility for his defeat, attributing it solely to himself. Crawford also seemed interested in a rematch, which was in line with the stipulation in their contract. However, now ‘Bud’ seems to be dismissing the possibility.

In a recent development, Spence Jr. had undergone cataract surgery to repair a problem with his right eye. In a social media announcement, he disclosed that his persistent eye condition, specifically cataracts, played a role in him receiving punches from Crawford in the last match. However, Crawford is not buying it. Moreover, since the recovery might take quite some time, it pushes the prospect of an upcoming rematch even further into the future. A recent post by Crawford has further put the chances of a rematch in jeopardy.

Crawford, based on his statement, appears to want to opt out of the match rather than deal with having to defend his win. Taking to X, he said, I done heard it all now @ErrolSpenceJr it’s ok tho because all in all I’m glad it’s over and done with. I wish you well ma brotha.” The unbeaten boxer questioned the validity of Spence Jr.’s excuse, highlighting that it seemed inconsistent, considering it had received approval from the examiners before his professional boxing match.

The 33-year-old fighter had shared with his fans that he recently underwent cataract surgery. On Instagram, he had posted an image with medical gauze and tape covering his right eye. In an Instagram story, he explained that the surgery was overdue and necessary in order to address the obstruction in his eye. “Had to get cataract surgery.. its been past due shit was covering my eye.” he wrote.

Terence Crawford’s response to this revelation was straightforward yet impactful. Taking to Twitter, he had issued a succinct two-word statement: “No comment,” cutting through the buzz surrounding the surgery. Moreover, Crawford also has questioned Spence Jr.’s claims of the eye injury impacting his performance.
