The WBC has ordered Shakur Stevenson and Frank Martin to fight for the vacant lightweight title. The fight comes in the wake of Devin Haney moving up in weight to fight Regis Prograis. Earlier, Stevenson was the mandatory challenger for Haney, but the latter expressed his interest in moving up the weight class. His team appealed to the WBC to allow the fighter to keep his title in the lightweight class while he goes to challenge Prograis.

However, now that the body has gone ahead with scheduling a matchup between Stevenson and Martin, it seems like Haney had to forfeit his title. Stevenson has an unbeaten record of 20 professional fights with 10 knockouts. His last crusade in the boxing ring was against Shuichiro Yoshino in April this year. The former won the fight with a sixth-round knockout. Martin, on the other hand, also has an undefeated career of 18 fights with 12 knockouts.

Bob Arum’s Top Rank and TGB Promotions will manage the fight. As more details of the fight emerge, fans have entered into a zone of total frenzy.

Shakur Stevenson “finally” decides on a fight

The fight that is slated to take its course on the 16th of November or 9th of December in New York City has generated hype in the boxing realm, bringing the fighters back into the limelight. While most fans showed excitement for the high-profile matchup, most were of the opinion that ‘Sugar’ Stevenson would have an easy win in the ring.

A user predicted a unanimous decision in favor of Stevenson. He further suggested that when the fight takes its course, ‘Sugar’ will dominate the fight by leveraging the distance and hand control that he’s known for.

An excited fan also said the same. He said that the fight would be one-sided in favor of Stevenson.

One user said if ‘Sugar happens to lose the fight, he would regret not taking the Devin Haney fight. It was reported that Stevenson passed on the fight against Haney due to the 25% purse bid offer.

Another user questioned how the title held by Haney is now vacant. He compared the situation to that of Canelo Alvarez, who was allowed to freeze his super middleweight so that he could go up at 154 to fight Dmitry Bivol.

The bottom line, however, remains that the fight will be an elite clash where two fighters with zero losses will go against each other. At the end of the day, one among them will have a dent in their boxing record.
