On February 8, with his WBO Super-Lightweight title on the line, Teofimo Lopez will return to face Jamaine Ortiz. While Lopez is 19-1, Ortiz will enter the ring with a record of 1 loss, 1 draw, and 17 wins. In addition, since both are almost of the same age and have the same reach, fans expect a memorable fight this week.

Anyway, ahead of his return to the ring against Jamaine Ortiz, Teofimo Lopez decided to explain how social media has made boxers soft. In this context, the 26-year-old declared that he would easily beat up Puerto Rican fighters like Subriel Matias. Although Matias holds a title at 140 lbs, Lopez lambasted the Puerto Rican boxer.

Last year when Teofimo Lopez appeared on The Porter Way Podcast, the WBC Super-Lightweight champion declared he would defeat Subriel Matias within only four rounds. As a result, Matias, the current IBF Super-Lightweight champion soon took to Instagram and called out Lopez for a potential fight in April or May 2024. In this context, Lopez has now claimed that no one knew about Matias until the Puerto Rican boxer called out ‘The Takeover’.

Social media has really made a lot of these boxers soft. Because they say I really don’t need to fight nobody, I just got to say their name. Subriel Matias. No one knew about him until he started calling me out,” declared Lopez. Along these lines, in a debatable statement, the 26-year-old claimed Puerto Rican boxers were easy fights. “He could be an IBF world champion. But, he’s the most softest fighter in the division,” said Lopez. “Why I say that is because he’s one-dimensional to the point when Puerto Rican men, I tear their butt up. Puerto Ricans are easy to beat,” he added.

At this several fans objected to Teofimo Lopez’s latest statement on Mathias.

Fans take Subriel Matias’ side

Following Teofimo Lopez’s take on Matias, several fans disagreed with ‘The Takeover’. As a result, showing faith in Matias’ abilities, several fans opposed Lopez on X. According to one fan, Matias will stop Lopez within 8 rounds if they fight:

Meanwhile, one believed “Matias would make Teo bring out the lungs excuse again“.

On the other hand, one argued that Subriel would teach Lopez to respect Puerto Rican fighters.
