Ahead of Artur Beterbiev vs. Callum Smith, the former’s urine and blood samples yielded atypical findings. As a result, despite Callum Smith publicly questioning Beterbiev’s sincerity as a sportsperson, the bout went on to take place.

However, after Beterbiev defeated Callum via a 7th-round TKO, Callum’s brother Liam Smith questioned the Canadian boxer’s atypical findings. And although he could not change the outcome of Artur vs. Callum, Liam could not help but imply there was something fishy about Beterbiev’s tests. In doing so, he questioned the testosterone level in Artur’s body.

Ahead of Artur Beterbiev vs. Callum Smith, the WBC explained that the former’s samples collected in December had “atypical findings” since they contained raised levels of 5b-androstanediol and HGH. According to WADA, “atypical findings” signify a report requiring further investigation but does not mean the athlete in question has tested positive for a banned substance. However, Callum Smith’s brother Liam Smith raised an eyebrow in public.

Atypical finding. What the f**k is it really? The damage is done, Callum’s lost. Even if it comes out now as an adverse finding, he was on something. It doesn’t matter. The fight went ahead and he got beat. If he comes out now and fails the drug test after the fight, Callum’s still lost,” said Liam Smith in an interview with Boxing Social.

What is it? An atypical finding but not an adverse finding. He’s [Beterbiev] got more testosterone at 39 [Beterbiev is 38] than probably us four brothers put together,” Smith added confidently. In this context, one must mention that Liam is only echoing what his brother Callum had earlier implied before the fight. However, Artur Beterbiev branded Smith’s statements slanderous.
