Boxing history has been witness to the clashes of the greats. The sound of their gloves seeping through their opponent’s skin has left a resounding impact on the way we see the sport today. Naoya Inoue showed what winners are made of. His stellar performance has left boxing enthusiasts in awe of his prowess. Last night we saw that the Japanese boxer is here to stay! And will rise to the ranks against all odds. But legendary fighter Mike Tyson knew this all along.

As Inoue entered the ring against his American opponent, Stephen Fulton, we got to see a certain zeal and energy emanate from Inoue that clunk the bells of victory from the first round. Every punch he landed was aimed at victory. And that cannot be disputed. While he vacated his bantamweight titles to move to the super bantamweight class, he unified his titles and became a world champion, demanding everyone acknowledge the history he has made.

As the world saw a rising boxing champ take to his peak, Mike Tyson recognized the potential in Naoya Inoue a little while ago. In the wake of this victory, a video from ‘Iron Mike’s’ podcast, Hotboxin with Mike, has resurfaced. The video shows the ex-heavyweight champion discussing the clean and vicious punches Inoue lands when he is in the ring. Mike says, “He’s a mean son of a b*tch. He’s better than Manny Pacquiao, just as good. He’s vicious.”

Calling the bantamweight fighter a monster, Tyson continues, saying, “Oh, wait till he gets on his knees, motherf****ers. That’s a bada** guy he beat too.” Talking about the 118 class that Inoue fights in, Tyson added that some ‘killers’ fight in that division. The video is a snippet from Nayoa’s fight against Nonito Donaire dating back to 2019. Through his excellent skills, he transitioned to victory in two rounds through knockout. A fighter like this does not surprise folks with the victory he landed against Fulton.

Stephen Fulton concedes, making way for Naoya to emerge

As ‘Cool Boy Steph’ entered the ring, ending his year-long hiatus from the ring, he was met with a destructive loss against Japanese fighter Naoya Inoue. Monster Inoue took the title home in his maiden fight in the super bantamweight class. As Fulton showed some progress in the initial rounds, he slipped loose following the eighth round, when he was met with a knockout. The victory gave Naoya his fourth-division championship.

Conceding his defeat, Stephen took to Twitter to comment. Further, in his post-fight release, he said, “I’m not feeling bad because I’m a champion no matter what. I’m very disappointed in my performance, but I can’t allow that to dictate who I am as a person. I went out like a man, so I hold my head up like a man.”

The fight stood on crumbling grounds until the very end, as Stephen’s trainer had earlier threatened to walk out of the bout if The Monster did not give up his hand wraps. The trainer said the way the Japanese boxer wraps his hands for a matchup is considered stacking in most commissions around the world.

As the fight went ahead earlier this week, Naoya Inoue emerged victorious, a befitting justification for his pound-for-pound status. He is the only Japanese fighter to be ranked the P4P king by ‘The Ring.’ This matchup has opened up an array of possibilities for the fighter. As he enters the big leagues of boxing, it is exciting to see who he goes against next. Meanwhile, Fulton needs to heal from his loss and come back to regain whatever he has lost this year.
