At the exact 53 seconds in the second round, Bob Sheridan announced that Shane Mosley threw “the best punch of the fight” against Floyd Mayweather. Mosley had Mayweather stunned, the moment that had the entire MGM Grand Garden Arena on their feet. According to consensus, Mosley is considered to be the toughest opponent of Mayweather’s career, and this fight is remembered as one of the rare moments when Mayweather’s impenetrable defense was actually broken. After 13 years, Mosley looked back at the most definitive moment of his career.

In addition to Mosley’s spike in popularity, this fight also established Mayweather as the big fish in the sea. The bout generated over a million, as reported by HBO. The Oscar De La Hoya fight had turned a lot of heads towards ‘Pretty Boy’, but after Mosley, Mayweather was officially on his road to becoming successful. But Mosley believes he could’ve knocked him out back then.

In a recent interview with The Art of Dialogue, Shane Mosley talked about his fight against Floyd Mayweather years ago, where he discussed his “frustration” and his views on Mayweather. So, the reporter put up a question, Does it frustrate Mosley that he was being walked around throughout the fight after the second round?

Mosley replied that Mayweather’s skills did not frustrate, be it the famous Philly Shell technique, or his defensive prowess. He was frustrated with himself and when he couldn’t execute the things he was most likely capable of. He said, “The problem was all on me and what I couldn’t do, how I couldn’t perform the way I needed to perform to win the fight. So that was the frustration for me, not whatever he was doing.

Then, Mosley also stated, “I know that if I was to touch him again and again if I could touch him again, it would have been a wrap. It wouldn’t have been a Floyd Mayweather thing, he would’ve been on the ground like everybody else.” It seems like Mosley still regrets not giving his 100% against ‘TBE’, otherwise as he believes, it would have probably been an entirely different story.

Mosley predicts the outcome if he fought Mayweather in his ‘prime’ days

After Mosley’s monologue about the fight, the reporter asked him if he believed he could’ve beaten the Grand Rapids native, if the fight was scheduled earlier in his career. To that, Mosley stated that not only him, but if all the boxers of his era like Oscar De La Hoya, Félix Trinidad, and Ike Quartey, fought against each other, the world wouldn’t have even heard the name of Floyd Mayweather. Their fight was held post a 5-year delay as Mayweather called him out before even going against De La Hoya. Recently, Mosley broke the silence regarding that as well.

He also stated that De La Hoya was way past his prime when he fought against Mayweather. Mosley had already beaten him twice. So, taking that as an argument, he indirectly claimed that if the fight happened a bit earlier, he would’ve been successful in putting down the 50-0 boxer.
