Ryan Garcia seems to be back on the Devin Haney track since the fighter Floyd Mayweather suggested Garcia should fight ditched him. So, the most popular social media boxer is looking to patch things up with ‘The Dream’ Haney. However, there is another name that caught Garcia’s attention. Teofimo Lopez! While appearing in a recent interview, he revealed who would be a bigger draw between the two!
Before Haney came along and became the top name, Lopez was a big name in the 140 lbs division, a feat he achieved by defeating Josh Taylor in June last year. So, while discussing his plans to fight Haney, ‘King Ry’ reflected on the potential of facing Lopez in the future. However, when the reporter from Fight Hype questioned Garcia on who he thinks is the bigger draw, the truth came out!

While speaking to Ben Thompson from Fight Hype, the Victorville native claimed Lopez is much more of a champion than Haney. “I would think Teofima [is] more of the champion at 140, and after I beat Devin’s a**, now I maybe go beat Teofimo’s a** who knows,” said Garcia. As he uttered those words, the perceptive reporter questioned him about who would make a bigger fight!
In response, ‘King Ry’ stated, “I would say, Devin! Teofimo has kind of overvalued himself a little bit. [He is] overestimating his driving force. He thinks more than he is right now. [I] don’t want to knock your vision for yourself, but you’re off-key. You’re not looking at everything…[from] a negotiation standpoint, he has a diluted estimation of himself.” Interestingly, even though Garcia thinks Haney is a bigger fight, he opted out of fighting him initially to go up against Rolly Romero. However, what’s even more interesting is Garcia might prefer Haney as his next opponent right now, but that wasn’t always the case!
Teofimo Lopez rejected $1.5 million
Speaking to Andi Purewal from Boxing News, back on 26 November last year, ringside David Benavidez vs. Demetrius Andrade, Lopez revealed he rejected a $1.5 million offer from Garcia’s corner. The WBO super lightweight champion claimed he deserved way more than what he was getting offered to fight Ryan Garcia. He had also suggested that he would want to go international, but nothing of that sort has happened.

“When you’re the best, when you are the guy when you bring major sponsors, endorsements, big major business deals when you offer me a 1.5 [million dollars] stake in the piece, f**k you. So yeah, I declined the offer,” said Lopez. He also added, “I want to go to Italy, I want to take it to other places in different ways.”

Garcia doesn’t think a fight against Lopez would be as big as the one against Haney. Ironically. after ditching the prospect of fighting the WBC-super lightweight champion not so long ago, he is again back to square one as no other opponents he tried to court are willing to take a seat at the negotiations table.
