“He Now Faces His Toughest Test”: Bob Arum Announces “One of the Greatest” Amateur Boxers Keyshawn Davis’ Next Opponent

On the 8th of February, Teofimo Lopez will defend his WBO Super-Lightweight title against Jamaine Ortiz. On this undercard, Keyshawn Davis, who fought his last against Nahir Albright in October last year will return to the ring. As of now, Davis is undefeated with 9 wins. In addition, he has held the WBC USA Lightweight and WBO Inter-Continental Lightweight titles in the sport.

However, it is true that Davis has yet to be tested against opponents who will give him a run for the money. On that note, promoter Bob Arum took to social media and revealed Davis’ next opponent who will likely put ‘The Businessman’ in a fix for the first time.

Bob Arum looks forward to Keyshawn Davis facing former two-division world champion

As an amateur boxer, Keyshawn Davis had a total of 93 fights. Other than 13 losses, Davis won 80 fights in amateur boxing. Additionally, in 2021, at the Tokyo Olympics, Davis won a silver medal for the US. At this, given Davis’ achievements as an amateur, promoter Bob Arum feels Keyshawn Davis is “one of the greatest amateur fighters the U.S. produced“. In his opinion, Davis “has had a great pro career so far” too. As a result, the 92-year-old is excited to see Davis against a former two-division world champion in his next fight.

“He [Keysawhn Davis] now faces his toughest test when he opposes Jose Pedraza on the Lopez-Ortiz card at Mandalay Bay next Thursday,” Arum announced. In this context, one must mention that Jose Pedraza is currently 29-5-1. He formerly held the IBF Super-Featherweight and the WBO Lightweight titles in the sport. Among others, he has faced the likes of Vasyl Lomachenko [lost], Gervonta Davis [lost], Richard Commey [draw], and Javier Molina [won]. Of course, with his resume, Pedraza has the experience that Keyshawn lacks. However, whether or not Jose can take advantage of his experience remains to be seen.

Davis is confident about beating Pedraza

In a recent interview, Keyshawn Davis thanked Jose Pedraza for taking the fight against him. “Fighting a guy like him, who has won multiple world titles, has made me lock in even more. I give a lot of credit to Pedraza for taking this fight,” he said. And given Pedraza’s experience, Davis looked forward to beating Jose in the ring. In his opinion, with a victory against Jose, Keyshawn will become a main-event fighter in the sport.

“Pedraza has been a main-event fighter and will give me an opportunity to show everyone what I’m truly capable of doing.
