Subriel Matias continues his practice of forcing an early retirement on his opponents. On November 25, the Puerto Rican met Shohjahon Ergashev from Uzbekistan on the David Benavidez–Demetrius Andrade main card. Ergashev started on a promising note. But as the rounds progressed, the IBF light welterweight champion started gaining ground. By the fifth round, the Uzbek boxer had been called up to stop the fight because of a leg injury.
It was the eighth time Matias forced an opponent to drop out of a fight and the fifth consecutive one. The punishment he received was apparent on Shohjahon Ergashev’s face. His bruised face, with the left eye barely open, shocked many fans and followers as they came across his picture on X. @BigBluntsBoxing, who shared the photo, mentioned that Ergashev could barely survive the five rounds with Subriel Matias: “Only 5 Rounds F**kin With Matias. Buddy Was Mad As Hell; He Got His A** Kicked.“

Early on, appearing fast and sharp, Shohjahon Ergashev attacked spiritedly. However, things started changing in the third round. Subriel Matias started paying back with the same coin.
This user highlighted how, after the match, Subriel Matias went to Shohjahon Ergashev, tapped the Uzbek boxer’s head, and then kissed his forehead. Probably Ergashev finally came across someone far superior to him, the user said.
Bro Matias literally kissed him on the forehead and tapped his head after the fight. He met his daddy in that ring 😂

This follower highlighted a few of the lapses observed on Ergashev’s end. Firstly, not even once did he raise his hands to block Matias’ punches. The guy could move around quite well, but his defense was horrible. No wonder Matias struck him whenever it pleased.
He didn’t put his hands up to block not once . Dude had pretty good movement but overall his defense was terrible matais could have hit him any moment he wanted to

Interestingly, the user’s comment invited additional responses. This user added that Ergashev looked great in the first round. But Matias applied so much pressure that the Uzbek boxer resorted to over-punching. Subriel Matias was smart enough to catch Ergashev when he threw his last shot. According to the user, most Eastern European boxers fight in a similar fashion.
He looked golden in the first round, Matias just puts to much strain on guys, dude punched himself out by throwing too much, too hard, and over moving. Matias knew this, started throwing when he noticed dude had throwing his shot. Most Easter euros fight standing up like that.

Probably horrified by Ergashev’s appearance, this follower wondered what would have happened had he continued to fight Matias.
Got dam. Imagine if he didn’t quit so early 👀

Probably referring to their weigh-in antics, this user seems to have been taken aback by Ergashev’s nerve to tell Matias something witty.
And buddy still had the audacity to try tell Matias anything funny as hell lmao

Most of the fans kind of agreed. Subriel Matias was more than a cut above Shohjahon Ergashev. The 31-year-old boxer with a 100% knockout-to-win rate has clearly made a statement.

A potential big fight
On February 25, early this year, Subriel Matias made his first attempt at a world title. He defeated the Argentine Jeremias Ponce to become the IBF light welterweight champion. Like the latest instance, in the match held at the Minneapolis Armory, Ponce began well, but the Puerto Rican boxer’s power was too much for him to sustain. Next weekend, Devin Haney will meet Regis Prograis for his WBC belt. A clear favorite to win, it’s being speculated that for title unification, he might go after Matias for his IBF belt. If that happens, then it’s a fight many fans would love to watch. But, it’s a thoughT that even Prograis appears to entertain.
