Concerned about the state of boxing, the ‘Golden Boy’ De La Hoya posted a video on Instagram. He began by asserting that the Canelo vs. Charlo fight was boring, and Charlo just came for his paycheck. “Hey, what’s up, guys…Canelo-Charlo…super boring fight. I mean, he just showed up for a paycheck.” However, later, Oscar suggests boxing is dying, “Look…if we want boxing to survive…if we want boxing to thrive..we need super fights like all the time…fighters must fight each other.”

De La Hoya also urged all the boxing promoters to come together and help save the sport. “We have to come together…promoters…Eddie Hearn, Al Haymon, Bob Arum, whoever’s out there, let’s come together. I am calling you out,” said De La Hoya in the video. Oscar emphasized that all the promoters must put their heads together and come up with a solution. In Oscar’s words, “because boxing can die.” With that out of the way, Oscar’s former star boxer Canelo has branded him a hypocrite.
Canelo Alvarez considers himself lucky
Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya had worked together for over a decade. However, their relationship abruptly fractured after Canelo accused Oscar of breaching the contract. Despite being from the same country, the two parted ways in 2020. It’s no secret that there is no love lost between the two of them, evident through the jabs and barbs they throw against each other.

While appearing on the Full Send podcast, Canelo openly labeled Oscar as a hypocrite. Claiming no one likes Oscar, Canelo asserted Oscar is “f***ing crazy,” and he is lucky to get away from him. Canelo even pointed toward Oscar’s ongoing lawsuit with Ryan Garcia, whom Oscar promotes.
