Having defended his WBO Super Lightweight title against Josh Taylor, Teofimo Lopez announced his retirement from the sport. Claiming he had several ideas about the sport that he could not execute always being “in the gym training and preparing for another upcoming fight,” ‘The Takeover’ hung his gloves. However, weeks later the WBO Championships Committee demanded a written confirmation from Lopez that would declare whether or not he retained his WBO title once and for all.

At this, the 26-year-old boxer announced he would keep his title and called out Devin Haney. While Lopez ordered Haney to “make the fight happen,” recently there were rumors about ‘The Takeover’ preparing for a potential match with Gervonta Davis. Amid the Gervonta Davis fight rumors, in an unprecedented turn of events, Oscar De La Hoya now held talks with Bob Arum about a possible card featuring Teofimo Lopez, Ryan Garcia, Shakur Stevenson, and William Zepeda.

Besides calling De La Hoya a good friend, he added, “I think that hopefully, that fight can come together“. After Michael Benson shared the news via a tweet, a fan announced, “Garcia will smoke Lopez“.
