17-year-old teenage sensation Curmel Moton will be back in the ring tomorrow. The Las Vegas resident will fight as one of the undercards of the David Benavidez and Demetrius Andrade headline event. Moton will meet Memphis-native Hunter Turbyfill at the Michelob ULTRA Arena for a featherweight six-round bout. The former, mentored and guided by none other than Floyd Mayweather Jr., made his amateur debut eight years ago. Last year, he was the United States Youth National Champion.
After setting an outstanding amateur record of 48 wins for 2 losses, the 17-year-old fought his first professional bout on the Canelo Alvarez versus Jermell Charlo main card. He knocked out Ezequiel Flores in the first round of the match. Early today, taking to his Instagram handle, Curmel Moton invited everyone to watch his second fight against Turbyfill. Often touted as the next Mayweather Jr., a lot rides on the young shoulders of Moton. Fans would be waiting with bated breath for another dazzling performance from boxing’s next big thing.

Curmel Moton said, “This Saturday I’ll be back in action facing another undefeated fighter; don’t miss it; it’s gonna be lite ….” Hunter Turbyfill debuted last year and has so far fought three times, all ending in triumph. Apart from the guidance Moton has been receiving from Floyd Mayweather Jr., the prospect has been learning the ropes from the likes of seniors such as Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson. Speaking about his protege, Mayweather Jr. said, “We don’t know who’s going to be the next Floyd Mayweather. But I truly believe this could be the next Floyd Mayweather.” However, the teenage sensation has been able to retain a level of composure in the face of the deluge of compliments that he has been receiving. Speaking to Fight Hype, he said, “…but I can handle the pressure. You know, I’ve been putting [in] work my whole life, and you know I’m used to [it]. I’ve been doing this since [I was] a little kid, so it’s not new to me..”
Curmel Moton took up the gloves when he was nine. His father, Curtis Moton, introduced him to the sweet science.

Born in Utah’s capital, Salt Lake City, in 2006, Moton’s father relocated along with the family to Las Vegas so that he could take maximum advantage of the city’s thriving boxing culture. As the story goes, it was while preparing for the 2015 bout against Manny Pacquiao that Floyd Mayweather Jr. met an eight-year-old Curmel Moton. Eventually, he became a regular at Mayweather Jr.’s boxing gym. It was a move that he wouldn’t regret, as he caught the attention of revered trainers like Mayweather Sr. and Jeff Mayweather, the former world champion’s uncle.
The YouTube video of his professional debut received nearly a million views. It remains to be seen whether he brings about another outside performance tomorrow night that will move him another step closer to a distant but within-view boxing glory.
