Heartbreaking tragedy in the ring
According to an article on their portal, the loved one of Nathan Valencia failed to understand how an event about which the school had due knowledge may have brought about the tragic demise of the young man. Valencia was a member of the university’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He went to compete at a fight night. The Kappa Sigma fraternity hosted it at the Sahara Event Center on November 19. Reportedly, it’s an annual fundraiser where all the proceeds go to a local charity.
The article further states that there was neither a trained official nor any on-hand medical personnel to take care of things during the contest. Furthermore, the event’s organizers were caught entirely off guard when Nathan Valencia suddenly passed out once his bout concluded. According to the family’s lawyers, the youngster had no boxing experience.

Grieving family wants answers
On November 29, 2021, an article on USA Today shared a statement from the legal team. It read: “More than anything, the family just wants to make sure that this never happens again to anyone—any child, son, or daughter. It’s a horrible incident that was really, completely avoidable. (This could have been avoided by) having professional referees, professional medical staff, or even just not having an event like this at all to begin with—where two students are in combat with each other where one could get seriously injured.”
Reportedly, even when medical help finally arrived, Nathan Valencia’s prognosis was grim. According to the Little Things article, Lacey Foster, Valencia’s girlfriend, was present at the venue. She said, “They pretty much said they’re [going to] try to do their best, but they didn’t know if he was going to make it out.” Nathan Valencia was hospitalized for four days before succumbing to his injuries a few days before his twenty-first birthday. Eight people benefited from his organ donations.
