Shakur Stevenson is making a highly-anticipated return to the ring on Thursday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where he’ll be facing off against Edwin De Los Santos for the vacant WBC lightweight title in the main event. Stevenson, with an unblemished record of 20-0 and 10 KOs, boasts a storied career, having clinched titles in the featherweight and junior lightweight divisions, as well as earning an Olympic silver medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. His recent triumphs include a WBO junior lightweight title win and a WBC belt secured in April 2022.
On the opposing side, heavy-handed southpaw De Los Santos from the Dominican Republic, with a record of 16-1 and 14 KOs, presents a formidable challenge for Stevenson, showcasing resilience with three consecutive wins since his sole career defeat in January 2022. With just days remaining for the fight, De Los Santos has made his pick for the most complete fighter. And it’s not Stevenson.

In an interview with AKHiTV, De Los Santos answered a few questions about his fellow boxers. Speaking about three fighters, Shakur Stevenson, Gervonta Davis, and Devin Haney, he revealed who is the most complete fighter among the three. He said, “Well, for me, I would say Gervonta Davis because of the quality of boxing that he has and his punching power, but I would also be satisfied in saying Devin Haney.”
The pugilist lauded Davis for his technique, punching power, and quality. Not only that, he mentioned he would also consider Haney to be deserving of the same. However, his opponent, Stevenson was the only one who did not make the mark.
This is not surprising, considering the banter and the mental warfare that ensues prior to the fight inside the ring. As it might seem, the two have already started assessing the other before their fight commences. De Los Santos seems confident while dismissing Stevenson’s prowess in the game.

Leading up to the impending fight, every word holds significance, and a recent interview delved into the strategic verbal jousting between Stevenson and De Los Santos. Santos had strategically ranked Stevenson in an earlier interview, beneath other contemporaries Haney and Davis, aiming to play mind games in the lead-up to their clash. Known for his composed demeanor, Stevenson addressed these comments with calm assurance during the interview, dismissing Santos’s attempts to provoke a reaction.
Responding with poise, Stevenson remarked, “Nah, he’s tryna get in my head. He wants me to get mad or say something or feel some type of way. Going into the fight thinking I’m angry, like it’s not gonna happen. I don’t care; he can say whatever he wants. On Thursday, he’s gotta see me, that’s it.” Stevenson’s unwavering focus and refusal to be rattled set the stage for an intriguing mental battle before the physical showdown in the ring.
