In April, Eddie Hearn spoke about Saudi Arabia’s willingness to stage an event that would feature Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury, and Oleksandr Usyk. It was rumored that the double card event would be worth about $400 million. While Usyk and Fury have since finalized a separate deal for a potential fight, the future of Joshua and Wilder remains shrouded in mystery.

In this context and in the wake of Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo, Eddie Hearn recently spoke to Fight Hub TV. Besides blasting Charlo over his laid-back performance against Alvarez, Hearn announced he was still hopeful about Joshua vs. Wilder. In fact, the chairman of Matchroom even announced a potential date for the fight.

Joshua vs. Wilder on the Horizon according to Eddie Hearn

Although he is not sure, Eddie Hearn believes the fight between Joshua and Wilder could potentially happen in December this year. According to his statements, instead of Saudi Arabia, the event will take place in either Vegas or Wembley. “Yeah, it could go in December. But, that fight, in my opinion, will 100% happen in the first half of next year, maybe even in the first quarter,” said Hearn. In this context, the Matchroom Chairman announced he spoke to promoter Shelly Finkel and was confident that both Joshua and Wilder wanted the fight.

“I’m talking to Shelly Finkel and we’ve made it crystal clear as they have to us. We want this fight. We’re talking about Vegas, we’re talking about Wembley. The money might not completely be the same as what we’ve been offered by Saudi Arabia. But both guys genuinely want the fight,” declared Hearn.

In this connection, he even touched upon Usyk vs. Fury. According to Hearn, their fight could be even bigger than Usyk vs. Fury.

Hearn believes Joshua vs. Wilder will be bigger

Although the venue is yet to be decided, the promoters and the fighters want the fight. With the excitement, Hearn believes that Joshua vs. Wilder will exceed Fury vs. Usyk. As a result, he said, “I think it’s a fight that’s arguably bigger even than Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk. I think it will get made. So, we’re under pressure to make that fight. We want to and I think it will get made.”

With the above statements, Hearn admitted that since Fury and Usyk have already signed a deal, their fight is more likely to happen than Joshua vs. Wilder. Since a deal has yet to be signed, all we can do is take Eddie at his word. However, as boxing fans, we hope for the best.
