Shakur Stevenson‘s reign as WBC lightweight champion has gotten off to a cautious start. His recent victory over Edwin De Los Santos, while securing him the title, left some fans feeling underwhelmed, with accusations of excessive movement on Stevenson’s part. Now, he might face a new challenger, William Zepeda, the fighter that Oscar De La Hoya himself is touting as a potential upsetter in the lightweight division.
Zepeda boasts an impressive undefeated record and a reputation for relentless pressure. So, it’d be an interesting fight, and De La Hoya has been trying to push it for quite some time now. However, as it turns out, Shakur Stevenson hasn’t received any follow-up regarding this fight, which came under the radar of Bill Haney, Devin Haney’s father. So, now Stevenson has responded to Bill Haney’s snarky comment.

Not long ago, Shakur Stevenson shared the DMs he shared with the Golden Boy Promotions CEO, where he tried to seek any negotiations regarding the fight against William Zepeda. He wrote in his text, “I thought u wanted Zepeda to fight me what’s the hold up reach out to my promoter if u want the fight to happen next.” But sadly he didn’t receive any reply from De La Hoya.
Amidst this, Bill Haney intervened, taking shots at Stevenson. He stated how Stevenson can only do big public stunts rather than conducting an actual fight. He stated, “Man out here tripping with all these lies. Now it’s call Bob? What in the A side B side bulls**t is going on? People need to stop listening to that crap. Shakur is officially boxing’s publicity stunting king.” Well, this triggered Stevenson, and it prompted a response from him.
Shakur replied, “What are u even talking bout. I’m convinced u just be saying anything or u on that dope.. U forgot u was the one who met with bob and HE said there was no real offer publicly.. U don’t even plan on making a fight wit me next or EVER so don’t even mention me punk a** n***.”

Well, Stevenson did try to make a fight against Devin Haney, but it couldn’t come to fruition. He even offered Haney’s team to be the replacement for Ryan Garcia, if Garcia was to pull out, which was again rejected by Bill Haney.

Boxing fans were excited after Shakur Stevenson offered to step in and fight Devin Haney in April, in an effort to potentially replace the seemingly manic Ryan Garcia. This could have been a dream matchup – two undefeated champions colliding in a battle for super lightweight supremacy. But according to Haney’s dad and trainer, that dream will have to wait. They flatly rejected Stevenson’s offer, claiming he hasn’t fought worthy competition to earn such a high-profile bout and the hefty payday that comes with it.

Bill Haney said, “It’s not that I would never entertain a fight between him and Devin, that’s completely false, completely untrue. What I will never do is think that Shakur Stevenson’s word in business means anything when he’s talking to me… Buddy, he ain’t fought nobody. He hasn’t fought anybody that we’re not going to beat.” So, they don’t consider Stevenson to be a viable option to be Garcia’s replacement at the moment.
