After Daniel Dubois lost to Oleksandr Usyk, promoter Frank Warren made an appeal to the WBA seeking justice for Dubois. In his opinion, the shot that referee Luis Pabon branded a low blow “was indeed legitimate” and subsequently, given “the ferocity of the strike,” Dubois could have won against Usyk had Pabon given the Ukrainian boxer “a count“.

However, to upset both Warren and Dubois, Usyk won the fight. As a result, in the wake of Usyk’s controversial win, Warren declared that we would’ve had a new unified Heavyweight champion “if the rules were followed to the letter“. Likewise, believing Dubois paid for the mistake that the referee made, the 71-year-old appealed to the WBA, trying to fetch an ordered rematch. In addition, he stated that it would be more appropriate if the latest bout was considered a no-contest. Finally, after more than a month, the WBA announced their decision regarding the Usyk vs. Dubois controversy.

Following the appeal by Warren, the WBA carefully reviewed all the necessary documents and reports. Having gone through the evidence, the WBA came to conclude that team Warren could not provide sufficient proof to alter the primary decision of Dubois vs. Usyk. “After careful review of the appeal, the reply, all documents, and evidence presented by both the appellant and respondent, the report of the supervisor, and the report of the International Officials Committee, the Championships Committee has determined that the appellant has not met his burden of proof in having the Committee set aside the result of the Usyk-Dubois bout,” declared WBA Championship Committee chairman Carlos Chavez.  “Therefore, the bout decision will not be set aside,” he added.

After talkSPORT correspondent Michael Benson tweeted the news, several people reacted to it. According to one fan, the decision is “as expected“.

As per another, apart from Warren, who recently gave Eddie Hearn a reality check over the mentioned controversy, and Dubois, everyone knew that it was a low blow.

Similarly, one opined that Dubois did not deserve a rematch against Usyk. “Dubois doesn’t deserve it,” they added.

It is worth mentioning that after the WBA announced their decision, Warren did not say anything. While Usyk remains on his throne, fans will have to wait to see whether or not Warren continues pursuing a rematch between the two. However, given the fact that Usyk signed a deal with Tyson Fury, it seems ‘The Cat’ won’t face Dubois again. Anyway, what do you think of the WBA’s decision? Do you think Dubois deserved a rematch?
