Devin Haney is undoubtedly one of the most talented fighters of the current generation! However, is he at the same level or even better than the legendary Floyd Mayweather? It’s no secret that Mayweather trained ‘The Dream’ Haney in the early years of his career. So, for them to spar shouldn’t come as a surprise.

However, what did come as a shock was what Bill Haney claimed of late. The father of Devin Haney suggested his son at one point not only sparred but dominated Mayweather, which resulted in the legendary boxer’s retirement. The update comes from Michael Benson on social media today. And boy, did the boxing world go to town on this seemingly absurd remark.

Not long ago, Ryan Garcia claimed Floyd Mayweather showed him the clip of Devin and Gervonta Davis sparring, where Garcia claimed Devin lost. Of course, the Haneys refuted this claim, but Bill seems to have gone off the rails by roping in a sparring session with Floyd himself. He said, “He should’ve [shown] the sparring video of himself and Devin.”

He continued, “It was 6-0, it wasn’t close. This was before the Conor McGregor fight when he finally decided he could no longer be in the boxing ring with no real fighters anymore. Devin was the one who stamped that. He knew the torch had to be passed, and he passed it to Devin.” Seeing the post, fans quickly flocked to the comment section to tell Bill what was what!

Fan demands to see the sparring footage of Bill and Floyd

While some fans lorded Floyd’s superiority over Haney, others made sarcastic comments on the claim from Bill. Nearly everyone in the comments refused to believe what Bill was claiming. One user confidently asserted that Haney is nowhere near what Mayweather was. “Devin ain’t half the fighter Floyd was, they goin way too far now,” the user wrote.

Unable to believe Haney’s claim, this user branded Bill “King of All Yappers Bill Haney.” Bill acts as the promoter, manager, and trainer for Devin – often criticized for overshadowing Devin himself.

Another user sarcastically demanded a sparring clip of Bill and Floyd Mayweather or Bill against anyone else, knowing full well that Bill never boxed anyone. The user wrote, “Now post the video of Bill Haney sparring Floyd.. or him sparring anyone at that. Exactly what I thought.”

The next user highlighted the absurdity of the claim from Bill, implying no one is going to believe the statement. “Come on, we really believe this,” the user commented.

Someone else brought up a good point, underscoring that the fathers of the boxers seem to have gotten louder than the boxers themselves. The user wrote, “It’s crazy that we live in a time where we hear more from the fathers of the fighters rather than the fighters themselves.”

With his son’s fight a jump and a skip away, Bill Haney seems to have stooped to making up stuff to create drama around his son’s fight. At least, that’s what the comments seem to be pointing towards. However, there’s always a tiny chance of Bill’s claim being true. Do you think Bill was telling the truth?
