The much-anticipated lightweight showdown between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia is getting murkier by the day. While fight fans are buzzing about the April 20th clash, accusations are flying thick and fast from both fighters. Suspicious claims of doping have been thrown into the mix to keep the pot boiling.
In his latest attack on his long-time rival, Garcia accused Haney of working with Victor Conte, the notorious figure linked to a past doping scandal. These accusations cast a dark shadow over the upcoming fight. This isn’t the first time Haney’s faced such allegations. However, with a world title on the line, and his legacy at stake, Haney is not leaving this accusation go unchecked.

In his recent appearance on the boxing YouTube channel 2ToneDaSuperstar, Ryan Garcia insinuated that Devin Haney could be taking steroids for his upcoming fight. It all kicked off when the host asked Garcia about his thoughts on Haney lifting 155 pounds of weight. Garcia replied that he wasn’t concerned because he has been doing squats with a heavy weight of 300 pounds. Therefore, he considers himself strong enough to not be scared of ‘The Dream’. Garcia said, “I’m not worried about pillow-hands Haney, bro. He could lift whatever the fuck he wants. He could take steroids, ’cause I heard that he wasn’t giving his blood work to SNAC, through the grapevine… allegedly.”

Furthermore, Devin Haney replied to Garcia’s comments by reminding the Victorville native how he was “the one demanded testing p***y” Then, Garcia responded by saying that Victor Conte, whose sports nutrition company, SNAC, Haney is associated with, is a “master cheater” who knows how to “drown things” out of his client’s blood system. On this, Haney replied, “Just stfu.. you’re real life delusional. I’m pillow fisted but take steroids, make it make sense??

Well, the relationship between Haney and Conte has always been a subject of controversy. Furthermore, back in the day, Haney even credited his success to Conte.
The real reason behind Haney’s success
The WBC super-lightweight champion Devin Haney invited controversy back in 2019 by partnering up with Victor Conte’s company SNAC. He publicly endorsed supplements from Conte, the mastermind behind the infamous BALCO scandal. A convicted felon for his role in a massive steroid distribution scheme, he remains a pariah for many in the sporting world. Nonetheless, Haney called Conte a “supplement guru,” and his company the key to his success.
This endorsement had fans divided. Some see it as a brave choice by Haney, trusting Conte’s knowledge of nutrition despite his checkered past. Others see it as a worrying sign, questioning whether athletes can truly be “clean” under Conte’s guidance.

Back in 2019, Haney told 3Kings Boxing Worldwide, “Victor has helped me tremendously. You know. before those four fights ago I was telling Victor everything I was doing, and he told me I was doing everything wrong. And I was like, ‘You know I been doing this pretty much my whole boxing career, how am I doing everything wrong?’ I couldn’t understand.”
Furthermore, he added, “When he tested my blood, I wasn’t that bad but it wasn’t the right way to be doing it. Victor started explaining everything to me. I feel like it took me to the next level and my fights have been showing it.”
