If not a boxer, what is Mike Tyson’s backup plan?
In the latest episode of his podcast, Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, ‘Kid Dynamite’ invited Grant Cardone a world-renowned entrepreneur, author, speaker, investor, and coach. In the episode, they touched upon various topics including Artificial Intelligence, health hacks, and even investing in bitcoin. However, one such topic that piqued fans’ interest was the backup plan of ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet.’
Mike believed school was a backup plan for failures. It was his Plan B, although, he didn’t go to school because he was confident that he would be successful. Moreover, he stated that most of the skills that are taught in school will be outdated by the time they pass out. He said, “I always thought school was something you fall back on when you fail and Plan B. That’s how I looked at school. I never went anywhere because I knew I was going to succeed. You got to learn skills, you got to get great at something. Most of what you learn will be outdated by the time your kids are out of school.”

He also expressed why he won’t pay for his kids’ college. He thinks if his kids want to go to school they should choose elite schools to meet influential people. Tyson is of the opinion that networking is the real value of school. He stands by the stance that college is only necessary if you aim to be President. As he expressed, “If my kids want to know whether they should go to college, I say, “I’m not paying for it. You want to go, you pay for it.” If you go, you should go to Harvard or Yale, where you get to meet influential people. The only valuable thing at school today is who you meet. If you want to be President of the United States, go to college; otherwise, you don’t need it.”
Mike Tyson’s life teaches us that setbacks don’t define us; our response does. He also challenges conventional wisdom about education and success. For him, the real classroom is life itself, and the ultimate competition is with oneself. Whether it’s boxing or business, the fight never stops
