With back-to-back exciting cards, Showtime recently had a laudable success in the sport. While Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia organized by Showtime made 1.2 Million PPV buys, the much-awaited Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford sold 700K PPVs all over the globe. Despite the combined 1.9 Million PPV buys, there are rumors that suggest Showtime might pull out of boxing except for PPV.
In 2018, Eddie Hearn even agreed with promoter Bob Arum on Showtime following “HBO out the business“. In this context, ahead of the recent Spence Jr. vs. Crawford match, while Hearn admitted that he only wanted to “create headlines” and “ruffle feathers,” he reiterated that he indeed believed “that Showtime would not stay in boxing as long as they have“. In his recent interview with IFL TV, the chairman of Matchroom Sport again announced that he heard startling reports of Showtime quitting boxing.

Eddie Hearn alludes to “newsworthy sources”
Speaking to IFL TV, Hearn announced that several sources informed him about Showtime letting go of boxing except for PPV. However, the 44-year-old, who declared Anthony Joshua would KO both Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury, simultaneously stated that Twitter is full of rumors. “I’ve heard it from numerous sources this week. But Twitter’s full of numerous rumors and b****cks,” Hearn said.

“But I’ve heard that from 3/4 newsworthy sources,” Hearn emphasized. Looks like, time will only disclose Showtime’s future in the sport. While Hearn and others wonder whether or not Showtime will leave boxing, it is worth mentioning that Hearn recently lauded Showtime ahead of Spence Jr. vs. Crawford.
Hearn offered his respect to Stephen Espinoza, president of Showtime Sports
Besides mentioning that Paramount and Showtime have not been “over the moon with the boxing business,” Hearn lately offered his respect to Stephen Espinoza, the president of Showtime Sports. And while he claimed “a lot of people” thought “Showtime would pull out of the business,” Hearn lauded their latest slate.

“Their slate at the moment is really good. And I give respect to Stephen Espinoza and the guys,” Hearn politely added. Hopefully, following Hearn’s statements, Espinoza and other stakeholders will soon clarify whether or not they are going out of the boxing business. And as mentioned earlier, fans would only have to wait.
