In the realm of boxing, conflicts often spill over from the ring to the outside world, and the ongoing feud between Oscar De La Hoya and Ryan Garcia is a perfect example of this. What initially began as a minor disagreement has evolved into a full-blown spectacle of public disputes and legal wrangling, casting a shadow over the once-thriving partnership between the two.

Garcia’s recent loss to Gervonta Davis became a pivotal turning point, as tensions soared when De La Hoya was conspicuously absent from the post-fight press conference, much to the chagrin of the 24-year-old fighter. However, the simmering animosity culminated in a surprising move – Golden Boy Promotions filed a lawsuit against Garcia. Amidst this legal turmoil, a new chapter unfolded when the 24-year-old recently linked up with Floyd Mayweather. The irony of this association was hard to ignore, given the rivalry between the two legends.

In a recent interview with FightHype.com, De La Hoya was asked about the training session. Surprisingly, he urged his client to take up all the ‘boxing knowledge’ he could from ‘TBE’ and improve his game. However, he also took some shots at his former rival thinking that his knowledge of the ring wasn’t worth much.

“Great for him, I think if he can soak up the knowledge, the boxing knowledge. I’m not talking about any other knowledge because there’s no other knowledge to soak up, but the boxing knowledge of Mayweather. If he can soak it up and learn, great for him. I mean, every fighter should hang out with legends and ask questions.” he wrote.

While De La Hoya does acknowledge the potential benefits of learning from legends like Mayweather, his words also carry a hint of caution, perhaps a veiled reminder of their own history. However, Garcia’s recent Instragam post bought out the competitive side of the six-division champion.

Oscar De La Hoya’s past and present clash in Ryan Garcia’s post

Garcia recently took to social media and posted a picture of his training session with Mayweather and Adin Ross. The post showcases a connection that seems to rub De La Hoya the wrong way. The irony was seen after the promoter tried to undermine ‘Money’s’ victory over him touting himself as the winner.  “Good seeing you with the guy I beat,” he wrote.

The fight between Mayweather and De La Hoya was the biggest event of the sport at the time. It also raked in $136 million in PPV sales making it the most grossing fight of the time. De La Hoya, despite his contention that he won that night, he was unable to sway the consensus that Mayweather’s superior boxing skills secured his victory.
