Adrien Broner. is going through a tough time right now. The fighter was in custody after violating a court-mandated alcoholism program. Since his release, the fighter embarked upon a journey to repair the things that went wrong in his life. From rebuilding his boxing legacy to healing those wounds that he suffered in his personal life, he embarked on a difficult journey of making amends. However, as he hoped to get his boxing career back on track, he lost an important person who was instrumental in this journey.
The boxer’s former trainer, Mike Stafford passed away at the age of 67. While mourning his loss, Broner spoke vividly of the impact his trainer left on his life. Someone who stood by him in his formative years. In a recent interview, the fighter described the way he’s been coping after the massive loss.

The last few months have seen the fighter use his social media to document the changes he is undergoing to make amends. From taking accountability for the vices he once engaged in, to calling out those who pulled him down, Broner has used his Instagram as the means to vent out his frustration. In the wake of his former trainer’s death, the boxer took to his Instagram stories to speak about the way he’s dealing with life after the loss.

The boxer elaborated on how difficult times don’t last long. However, he also added that folks who deal with such times head-on go the extra mile in winning this battle of life. He said, “Taking things one day at a time cause I understand tough times don’t last but tough people do #RoadToBecome5x #DoltForCoachMike.” His hashtag ‘RoadToBecome5x’ refers to the efforts he’s putting in to win titles in five different weight classes. He is currently a champion in four weight classes.
The Boxing Realm Mourns the Loss of Coach Mike
It’s never easy to process a death. Especially in a sport like boxing, where rivalries exist, but a sense of camaraderie binds the fraternity together above all. But when it’s someone like coach Mike Stafford, the outpouring of solidarity is even more significant. Over the course of his career, the trainer equipped multiple fighters with the acumen with which they went on to become successful in the realm of boxing. Apart from Broner, he is well renowned for training Robert Easter Jr. and Rau’Shee Warren. A heart of gold, the trainer often picked poverty-stricken children from the streets of Cincinnati, fed them food and dropped them back home.
Such a warm spirit definitely would have attracted numerous admirers. One of them is Jake Paul’s coach, BJ Flores. The trainer said that he had known Mike since he was fourteen. Flores further added that he wanted to bid a final goodbye before his passing.

Caleb Plant also paid his tributes to the late trainer. Responding to Broner’s post remembering his former coach, Caleb said, “Coach Mike always had my back. He use to see me box as a kid up in Kentucky. Always was solid. Gonna miss you, coach. Head up AB.”
Former IBF World Champion, Andre Dirrel also responded to Broner’s post. Speaking of the support coach Mike showed Dirrel throughout his career, the 2004 Olympic Bronze Medalist said, “He was there from day one! Gave me love throughout my entire career!!! Amateurs and all! RIP to one of the GOATS!!”

Former two-time welterweight champion, Andre Berto prayed for Mike’s soul to rest easy. He commented, “Wow!! My guy right there smh Rest easy coach Mike”
Mike Stafford’s legacy will always live for the difference he made in the lives of people like Adrien Broner. With time, as Broner begins healing from this loss, it is important to see what he makes of the second chance he’s received to revive his boxing career.
