Ahead of Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo, Terence Crawford, former two-time undisputed champion, expressed he would like to fight Canelo and become a three-time undisputed champion in the sport. While many thought it was an absurd wish, ‘Bud’ only saw glory in travelling three weight classes to potentially defeat Canelo at 168 lbs.

However, later Crawford even thought about facing Alvarez at a catchweight. On that note, in a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, David Benavidez‘s father predicted Crawford’s potential fate against the undisputed Super-Middleweight champion in the sport. Here is why Benavidez Sr. would not want ‘Bud’ to test himself against Canelo.

According to Jose Benavidez Sr., it is ridiculous that Canelo Alvarez, a Super-Middleweight is even expected to share the ring with Terence Crawford, a Welterweight boxer. Likewise, Benavidez Sr. is in agreement with Alvarez who claimed a fight with ‘Bud’ did “not make sense“. Additionally, speaking about the potential result of Crawford vs. Alvarez, Benavidez Sr. claimed ‘Bud’ would suffer the same fate Jermell Charlo did when ‘Iron Man’ left the Super-Welterweight division to box the Mexican fighter at 168 lbs.

This Canelo era has turned into a circus, man. True 168, the king, the face of boxing trying to fight 154s, 147, 160s is ridiculous. He’s good, my respect for Terence Crawford. But, these guys are too big, man. It’s a circus to me. That’s not good for boxing,” said Benavidez Sr. “To make history, you got to fight your own size, maybe a little bigger,” he added.

Finally, he declared there was no way ‘Bud’ could win against Canelo. “Crawford’s a great fighter. Very intelligent, really good. But, I think we will see the same thing we saw in Charlo vs. Canelo. It’s just too much weight. There’s no way,” Jose Sr. concluded.

Benavidez Sr. wants ‘Bud’ vs. Jermell Charlo

Following his loss to Canelo Alvarez, Jermell Charlo announced he wanted to fight Terence Crawford at 154 lbs. In his opinion, after Crawford has had his rematch with Errol Spence Jr., Charlo vs. ‘Bud’ will make an entertaining fight. “I could fight Terence Crawford in my weight division. I know he’s somewhere around this joint,” said Charlo. However, in his reply to Jermell, Crawford claimed Charlo should be “ashamed” of himself given his performance against Canelo.
