David Benavidez is breathing down Canelo Alvarez‘s neck, but it’s not just metaphorical. ‘The Mexican Monster’ believes Canelo ducked a massive payday offered by Premier Boxing Champions to avoid stepping into the ring with him. This isn’t the first time Benavidez has called out the undisputed super middleweight king.

Now, with Canelo leaving PBC as his promoter, the chance for this dream fight seems even more remote. Furthermore, Benavidez was asked if he would follow his rival’s path if it meant being offered his dream bout against Alvarez. Would he leave PBC for Alvarez? Benavidez gave a surprising answer to this intriguing question.

A couple of days ago, in an interview with Thaboxingvoice, David Benavidez talked about how he’d never leave the PBC and turn his back on Al Haymon. And it doesn’t matter if that would mean he could finalize the fight with Canelo Alvarez. He sees it as a way of showing loyalty to his promotional banner. Furthermore, he believes Alvarez doesn’t want to fight him and is doing everything to duck him.

Benavidez said, “F*ck no. I’ve been making good money, Al Haymon has been taking care of me.” Later, he also added, “It doesn’t have anything to do with promotions, Canelo don’t want the fight, it’s crazy how some fans can’t see that. Every time Canelo says no, all his fanboys come up with a f*king million excuses for him.”

He even believes that because Alvarez didn’t want to fight Benavidez, he decided to leave PBC.

However, there are no particular reasons that have been revealed by Alvarez’s team for breaking his contract with the PBC just after their first fight together. However, this further changes plans for Alvarez’s future.

The potential fights for Canelo Alvarez

Canelo Alvarez, the undisputed super middleweight king and reigning pound-for-pound contender, seems to be on the move. After a controversial split with his promoter, Premier Boxing Champions, the boxing world is buzzing with speculation about his next fight. The original plan for Canelo’s PBC reign was clear: unify the belts against Jermell Charlo, then face his twin brother Jermall Charlo on the lucrative Cinco de Mayo weekend. However, there is a twist.

A fight with Jermall wouldn’t have been a guaranteed blockbuster. Jermell’s underwhelming performance against Canelo left fans uninterested in a ‘brotherly revenge’ narrative. So, Canelo and PBC couldn’t agree on a price tag leading to their split. Now, Jaime Munguia is a potential opponent for Canelo Alvarez, and even Edgar Berlanga is involved in the discussions for the May 4th bout.

Now, it’s to be seen who Canelo Alvarez chooses to take on next, since he didn’t show any interest in taking a fight against Terence Crawford or David Benavidez.
