Claressa Shields is one of the flag-bearers in women’s boxing. She has secured numerous world championships across three weight classes, namely, holding the undisputed female light middleweight title since March 2021. Additionally, she held the undisputed female middleweight title from 2019 to 2020 and previously held the unified WBC and IBF female super middleweight titles from 2017 to 2018. The 28-year-old took to X to announce her movie which is to soon grace the theatres. The actor playing her is none other than Ryan Destiny. Let us delve into the details.

The movie documents Shield’s story from her days in Flint to becoming an undefeated and unstoppable force to be reckoned with. This biopic will be directed by Rachel Morrison, the cinematographer known for her work in ‘Black Panther’. Ryan Destiny, known for her roles in Star, The Lower Bottoms, and featuring in Doja Cat: Need to Know music video will play the boxer in the movie.

Unlike other kids of her age, ShieLds did not start talking until she was five years old. However, that did not stop her from letting her fists do the talking. She started boxing when she was eleven. However, Shields had a very tough upbringing as she was simultaneously honing her skills to become a world champion.

Situations were such that she and her siblings used to split a packet of noodles into four pieces and share. To make things worse, when she was five years old, she experienced sexual abuse, which left her feeling confused. Her mother was not of much help as she battled with alcoholism herself.

“I watched my mom battle alcohol addiction, and learned how to deal with two people: my mom, and my mom when she drinks,” she said. However, this did not deter her from the path she so badly wanted to adopt. She would run to the gym three miles away, whether it snowed or scorched. “When I look at where I’ve come from, I come from the bottom. I don’t think people realize what the bottom is. When I won the Olympics, before I left home I didn’t even have a bed to sleep in,” she added.
