Claressa Shields Gives Three Ultimatums to Alycia Baumgardner to Make the Fight Happen: “Y’all Don’t Tell Me What to Do”

It might have been Alycia Baumgardner who called on Claressa Shields for a fight, but it is the latter who is calling the shots in this dynamic. In a fresh comment on a potential fight between the two, the ‘GWOAT’ vehemently addressed her continuing dominance in the boxing realm.

Last year, after Baumgardner’s drug test fiasco, she challenged her well-wisher, Shields to a fight. Shocked, the middleweight fighter, who never fathomed a serious clash with the Michigan-based super featherweight, did what every self-respecting boxer would do- accept the challenge. While official talks for the fight seem not to have taken off yet, both the fighters did not hold themselves back while taking perpetual digs at one another. In another attempt at such swipes, Shields boldly noted that she would not budge even a bit and that Baumgardner would have to make the distance if she wanted to fight the 28-year-old GWOAT.

One pertinent barrier preventing the Shields-Baumgardner fight from happening is the significant difference in weights between the fighters. While Shields continues her undisputed reign in the middleweight division, ‘The Bomb’ rules the super featherweight class with her undisputed status. To cover up this weight disparity, either the 29-year-old, Baumgardner will have to go up the weight or Shields will have to drop the pounds to go to 130 lbs. However, now it is certain that Shields holds no such plans.

To Fight Hub TV, the fighter who also emerged undisputed in the Super welterweight division noted, “I have no problem with beating Alycia Baumgardner’s a**. I have no problem doing that. It would have to be at 154. I’m not going to 147. Why? Cause I don’t have to. That’s why. She the one called me out. I didn’t call her little a** out.” With such an impressive portfolio, she asserts her power to call the shots here.

“So, she wanted to call the big dog. Well, come and bite the big dog up at a weight class that I fought at which has been undisputed at 54. Undisputed twice at 60, and unified at 68. She can pick either of those three weight classes and she can get wrecked. That’s no problem,” further noted the 14-undefeated fighter. She then declared, throwing in Cris Cyborg’s name along with Baumgardner’s, “Y’all don’t tell me what do! Y’all don’t tell the champ what weight she need to come to. Y’all want to fight me, fight me at 154.”

So, it seems she is ready to make the fight with both Alycia Baumgardner and Cris Cyborg provided they are ready to come up to 154 lbs, 160 lbs, or even 168 lbs. However, she had earlier stated that she is prepared to fight even at welterweight (147 lbs), something she is not prepared to do now.

On her X, Claressa Shields, in December 2023, highlighted how she would fight at any weight division. However, to get any fight between Baumgardner and her going, she demanded that a belt be put on stake. She noted, “P4P #1 wins at any weight class. I’d 100% fight @alyciambaum at 147 154 or 160 or 168 as long as it’s a Belt or multiple belts on the line. You know I’m not hard to make a fight with.”

Will she abide by these wise words and give her naysayers a shot at 147 lbs? Or will she remain in the middleweight class, waiting for her potential opponent to come to her?
