Boxing, like any other industry, runs on money! And as if boxing wasn’t competitive enough, in a bid to secure the grandest flights and the biggest purse, fierce rivalries are often born. On a similar note, Claressa Shields has drawn parallels between the rap industry and the boxing industry!

Much like boxing, the rap scene is highly competitive. Several rap artists like Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, City Girls, Cardi B, and GloRilla have been dominating the domain in recent years. However, another rising star, Ice Spice, claimed, “It is a competition at the end of the day. People want to be all ‘I’m a girl’s girl,’ but then behind the scenes being b***hes,” per a report from Yahoo News on October 2023. And Shields’ tweet today signified the same sort of competition in boxing lately.

Turning to X (formerly Twitter), the ‘Goat’ Shields claimed boxing is starting to look more and more like the Rap industry! “Boxing is becoming like the rap industry…. Ain’t no friends in the industry,” wrote Shields. While Shields claimed she doesn’t have any friends in the boxing industry, an Instagram post from her yesterday may shed some light on the matter further. The two-division undisputed female champion shared a snap on Instagram facing off against Mikaela Mayer, sparking conversations around a fight between the two friends.

Later in the comment section of the post, Shields wrote, “[Mikaela Mayer] just cause you beat [Natasha Jonas] don’t mean you can beat me up.” Shields and Mayer have been long-time friends and have been supporting each other, so her latest tweet came as a shock to everyone. However, Mayer wasn’t the only one Shields faced off against during the Super Bowl LVIII Radio Row!

Shields and Cris Cyborg discuss their fight

Cris Cyborg and Shields have expressed interest in fighting each other in a boxing match in the past. However, the weight class where the fight may transpire has been the topic of debate between the two pugilists. According to a tweet from John Morgan, host of the MMA Road Show, Shields and Cyborg were discussing the same during their encounter.

“Fight negotiations get underway on Radio Row ahead of the Super Bowl. The two crossed paths in Las Vegas [and] wasted no time talking terms. Cyborg suggested 147 pounds, saying Shields should come down based on experience advantage,” wrote Morgan. What’s more, the weight class seems to be the only hurdle because both are signed under PFL, so a fight shouldn’t take long to make.

However, the exact reason behind the statement remains unknown at this time. Why do you think Shields said that? And do you agree with her?
