Claressa Shields has always favored Shakur Stevenson more than the other male boxers. She’s even claimed that Stevenson has the potential to become the next Floyd Mayweather. Recently, she even slammed a fan talking trash about Stevenson’s previous fight against Edwin De Los Santos.
Furthermore, Shields herself is at the top of her game, currently holding the undisputed middleweight crown. On her journey to become a champion, she’s indulged in some sparring sessions with Stevenson, and that’s when she experienced his skills firsthand. For that reason, she supported him against the criticism regarding his performance and the decision to not have a rematch with De Los Santos.

When questioned about the prospect of a bout between Emmanuel Navarrete and 135-pound champion Shakur Stevenson, Fernando Beltran, Navarrete’s promoter, responded with strong disapproval. Beltran expressed his disdain for the hypothetical matchup by drawing a vivid comparison. He stated that the fight against Stevenson couldn’t be anything but “boring“. Moreover, after the WBO ordered the fight between Emanuel Navarrete and Denys Berinchyk, Stevenson was left disappointed. So much so that Stevenson opted for retirement in a recent post on X.

Meanwhile, Shields came in support of her friend, and stated, “Oh you don’t want to fight him cause he boring ! Man get out of here! Well, this prompted a fan to challenge Stevenson to run it back again against Edwin De Los Santos.
Well, this response caught the attention of Shields and she wrote, “He literally outboxed the dude! Ohhh you want him to stand there and play Rock em Sock ‘em robots 😂 GTFOOh! Tell Edwin practice on cutting off the ring! He too experienced to not know how, Real shit!” Moreover, not so long ago, recognizing the talent of Stevenson, she talked about him in high regards.

Back in September 2023, in an interview with Boxing Social, Claressa Shields offered her prediction for a hypothetical lightweight tournament featuring notable fighters like Shakur Stevenson, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, and Vasily Lomachenko. When asked to choose a victor, Shields leaned towards Stevenson, citing him as the fighter who would come out on top in such a competitive scenario.
Notably, Stevenson is one of the male boxers Shields has sparred with in the past, adding a personal touch to her assessment. But she explained, “Let’s be real, Shakur getting hit six percent in his fights. These guys landing six percent on Shakur and he’s landing at over 50 percent power shots. When you landing like that and dudes can’t hit you back?” Shields continued, “Shakur’s the man. To me, he’s the next pound-for-pound, he’s the next Floyd Mayweather.”
