Out of all the celebrities in the world, Melvin Townsend decided to mess with Mike Tyson. A bad idea indeed – and he paid for it with injuries and humiliation! The date was April 2022, and the place – a Florida-bound JetBlue plane when the animal in ‘Iron’ Mike woke up again. ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ beat up Townsend after facing constant harassment from the passenger.

However, nearly two years after the incident, Jake Jondle, Towsend’s lawyer, through a letter addressed to Alex Spiro, Mike’s lawyer, has demanded $450K for not pursuing a lawsuit against Mike Tyson. In addition, Towsend’s lawyer also demanded $12,500 for medical costs Townsend had to stomach after the incident. However, Mike’s famed lawyer, known for representing celebrities, has declined to pay a penny to the accused.

Responding to the letter from Towsend’s lawyer, Spiro claims it’s nothing more than a shakedown attempt from Towsend, and he won’t play ball with them. “I have received a shakedown letter related to some instigator’s harassment of Mike a year ago and the aftermath. There will be no shakedown payment,” Spiro told Daily Mail.

What’s more, the letter from Jondle included a plethora of medical complications and expenses Towsend had to bear after getting beaten up by Tyson. Jondle claimed his client encountered pain in the neck and head. He also added that Towsend suffered nausea, headaches, depression, memory issues, sleep issues, mood disturbances, vertigo, and compromised vision.

All these and visits to a neurologist, a psychologist, and a back pain specialist have cost Towsend the total sum of $12,500. Moreover, Towsend’s lawyer claims his client did not have medical insurance during the incident, demanding compensation from Mike. However, as mentioned before, Mike’s lawyer has labeled it an attempt at shakedown, and they won’t pay anything. Here’s what Towsend’s lawyer is planning in that scenario.

In a statement from Towsend’s attorney, the lawyer claimed if no agreement is reached between them and Tyson’s side, they will pursue the lawsuit against Tyson. Jondle even suggested that Mike knew the damage he could cause to another human being, “but he chose violence.” According to Towsend’s attorney, Towsend was happy to see Tyson and started discussing the marijuana industry and psychedelic mushrooms.

However, Tyson grew irritated and started beating up Towsend. It’s also worth noting that weeks after the incident, San Mateo County District Attorney Stephen M. Wagstaffe decided against filing charges against either party. Why? Well, because of the way Towsend behaved and due to requests from both victims and Mike Tyson.
