“Fun fight to watch…”: A bout from the Floyd Mayweather Archives
More than 15 years ago today, there was a $47 Million dollar fight that Ricky Hatton undertook which proved to be devastating for the boxer. On December 8, 2007, came the night when “The Hitman” went against ‘Pretty Boy’ in a bid to do the unthinkable: topple Floyd Mayweather from his helm. The latter entered the ring with a stellar record of 38-0 (24 KO) to defend his lineal and WBC welterweight titles. And he did just that. In what can only be categorized as a one-sided fight, he dominated his opponent and secured the win via a stellar knockout in the tenth round. At one point in the fight, Ricky Hatton even taunted Mayweather by showing his backside. However, ultimately the joke was on the British boxer.
Now, as an excerpt from the matchup resurfaces, fans have had things to say about the inception of this devastating fight for Hatton.
After his win via KO against Hitman, Mayweather had a string of victories mostly through unanimous decisions or split decisions. A user shared his thoughts about Mayweather’s knockout victory, which is a rare sight.

A section of the video shows Hitman possibly taunting his opponent in the boxing ring. Coming to the defense of Hatton, a user explained that it was perhaps the fighter implying that the referee was not doing his job properly.
He wasn’t taunting Mayweather, he was highlighting that fact that he was being bent over by a home town (most likely bribed) referee, who was actually breaking the action whilst punches were still being thrown.

Saying that Mayweather’s fight against Hatton was probably his last stoppage fight, a user declined to recognize his victory against Victor Ortiz (2011) and Conor McGregor (2017) as a legit KO victory.
