At the first press conference of Jaime Munguia vs. Canelo Alvarez, the undisputed Super-Middleweight champion announced that he would fight ‘Red Flag’ if he were offered a figure between $150 million and $200 million. Since Canelo felt David Benavidez added nothing significant to the match as a boxer, the 60-2-2 fighter wanted to be fairly compensated with money. At this, Benavidez blasted Canelo in public.

However, Benavidez’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz feels Canelo deserves the kind of money he has demanded. Likewise, Lewkowicz agreed to pay Alvarez $150 million for the fight. In addition, he hoped the bout would take place before the end of this year.

After Canelo Alvarez demanded $150 million to $200 million to fight David Benavidez, ‘Red Flag’ took to Instagram and blasted the undisputed Super-Middleweight champion. Since Canelo told ESNEWS that Benavidez, as a fighter, would bring “nothing to the table,” David asked why Alvarez sought a figure as big as $200 million. Likewise, he added, “Hopefully after you make that 150 million you have enough left over to buy a pair of nuts.” But, Benavidez’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz feels Canelo’s demand is well justified.

It’s very smart. I believe that it will get the $150 million and he will fight him. It will be shameful for boxing. It will destroy a part of our sport if he doesn’t fight Benavidez. So, now [that] we know the price, we need to get the money,” said Lewkowicz.

But, he’s [Canelo Alvarez] very smart. Very good businessman, Canelo. And I believe that he deserves the 150. I don’t know if he [will] reach the 200. But, the $150 million – why not?” he added. And since Floyd Mayweather made $250 million from his fight against Manny Pacquiao, Lewkowicz said, “Mayweather did it. He followed the footprints of Mayweather. Don’t underestimate it any longer.

Along these lines, Sampson mentioned when the fight could potentially happen.

When will Benavidez vs. Canelo take place?

Replying to a fan, David Benavidez said the fight against Canelo Alvarez could potentially take place in September this year. However, since David will fight Oleksandr Gvozdyk in June, Lewkowicz feels otherwise. “I don’t know September. Because if he fight in June, he will not fight in September. I mean I will not allow that. But, November is a good time to do that fight,” said Lewkowicz.

Because, in a fight like this, you need to go [to] at least six cities. Flights, hotels, and you lose a month of training. If he want $150 million, it could happen in November,” he concluded.
