The veil lifts, and it’s Jermall Charlo. After much anticipation and waiting, reports are breaking that Canelo Alvarez is ready to exchange blows with the elder of the Charlo twins. Despite scanning through names such as Terence Crawford and Jaime Munguia, the Mexican champion has decided to honor his contract and give fans an exciting fight with a flavor of revenge.
The Ring reported that the stage is set for Alvarez on May 4 to give Jermall Charlo a shot at redemption. Notably, he cruised to victory against Jermell Charlo in September 2023. Meanwhile, Jermall Charlo finally ended his lengthy layoff in December against Jose Benavidez Jr. As per The Ring, Las Vegas will again open its arms to Canelo Alvarez on the occasion of Cinco de Mayo.

While the exact details are yet to be chalked out, the fight was long overdue. Last year, the elder of the Charlo twins signed the contract to face the Mexican fighter. But due to personal reasons, Jermall Charlo couldn’t step into the squared circle and go blow-for-blow with Alvarez. Instead, the younger of the Charlo twins stepped in and racked up millions. Now it seems the time has finally come for Alvarez to fulfill his contract with Jermall Charlo.

Boxing insider Rick Glaser sent the boxing community into a frenzy with his update, as Alvarez had only signed a deal with the PBC recently. With two more fights left on his contract and with the PBC inking a deal with Amazon Prime, more was on the table. However, it seems whatever it was, it was short of Alvarez’s demands.
Glaser disclosed that the PBC failed to fulfill Alvarez’s guaranteed purse for his annual Cinco de Mayo fight. Moreover, the contract with PBC allows Alvarez to explore other options, and as Jermall Charlo is a fellow PBC stablemate, he might have to switch to Jaime Munguia. All eyes will be on Alvarez when he makes that crucial career announcement. Whether he stays with the PBC or not will decide who will face him on May 4. But as hinted by The Ring, the PBC is not in flux.
