After talks failed with Rolly Romero, Ryan Garcia has roped Devin Haney back into the picture. While Eddie Hearn, Haney’s promoter, has been hinting at a potential fight between the two boxers sometime in April, Garcia has now revealed that he is in talks with Haney to materialize the potential fight. Only a few weeks ago, a fight with Haney was on the cusp of being signed. However, the talks broke down and things turned ugly. After which Garcia decided to move on to Rolando Romero. As it seems, the fight between the two might be finally back on.

“I don’t wanna say anything before it’s signed, but we are back in talks… Devin will be destroyed and his daddy’s gonna help him up,” said Garcia in an interview with FightHype, already taking digs at the father-son duo. While other details about the negotiations remain undisclosed, he added that he’s not going to reveal too many things at the moment to avoid misleading the fans, especially considering what happened with Romero earlier and how it may have been perceived.

KingRy even went as far as to express regret about hitting out Devin Haney, saying he meant “no disrespect.” He revealed that what he said about the Haney’s was just “banter” intended for business, adding, “I am just out here trying to do the best possible… and sometimes that makes me think I gotta make a different move.”

Haney had been equally willing for a match-up like this. Moreover, the news comes as a sigh of relief for Garcia, who had confirmed a fight with Romero only to find himself left without an opponent again as Romero decided to take on Isaac Cruz instead. What made Romero make such a decision?

Rolly Romero made the decision to face Isaac Cruz instead of initially scheduled opponent Ryan Garcia for his upcoming bout. The WBA super lightweight champion recently asserted that a matchup against ‘Pitbull’ Cruz presented a greater challenge compared to Garcia. In an interview with Elie Seckbach from ES News, Romero promptly labeled Cruz as the more formidable challenger, citing his durability and dangerous fighting style.

Romero explained that Cruz’s aggressive approach, described as “just come and swing,” made him a tougher opponent than Ryan Garcia. When questioned further by Seckbach, Romero nodded in agreement when asked if he believed Garcia would have been an easier matchup. He emphasized that choosing Cruz demonstrated his preference for a more demanding and challenging fight. Meanwhile, Garcia expressed disappointment at missing the opportunity to face Romero.
