Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez is coming off a ninth-round stoppage win over Sunny Edwards in December last year. And he is ready to take on a tougher opponent, which he deemed Juan Francisco Estrada to be. According to a report from Ring Magazine, San Antonio’s Rodriguez vs. 115-pound champion Juan Francisco ‘El Gallo’ Estrada is nearly a done deal.

The fight is reportedly being aimed for June 20, with Estrada’s WBC super flyweight title on the line. In addition, the potential location for the fight has also been confirmed, which will determine whether Rodriguez gets to continue his undefeated rampage. The update was picked up by talkSport editor Michael Benson on social media today!

The fight may transpire in Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, headlining for DAZN Boxing. However, it’s worth mentioning that Mexico’s Estrada is yet to confirm the fate of the fight and his potential fifth Ring Magazine championship title defense. The 44-3 boxer was previously in talks to fight Japan’s Kazuto Ioka.

However, those talks reportedly have fallen apart for the second time, making the Estrada vs. ‘Bam’ Rodriguez fight even more real. Even though Estrada hasn’t given his green light for the fight yet, Rodriguez is more than happy to take the fight despite his partner giving birth to their first child next month. Meanwhile, Rodriguez’s trainer has spoken about Bam’s eagerness to take on the challenge.

Speaking to Boxing Scene about the potential fight, Robert Garcia revealed the fight was nearly a done deal. “From our side, it’s a done deal. We got everything we asked for. We’re just waiting on ‘Gallo,’ but from what I understand, they’ve already got their money part settled,” said Garcia.

As per Garcia, Rodriguez doesn’t want to go back to 112 pounds because WBC flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez, at 112, has canceled several fights. So, Rodriguez preferred moving up to 115. “That’s what motivates ‘Bam,’” Garcia said. Commenting on the birth of  Rodriguez’s child, Garcia said, “Ideally, he’d like to wait a few months and truly enjoy the time with his new baby, but if it’s ‘Gallo,’ he’s ready to fight.”
